Show TIME at M 1 9 the M I 1 A outing to pine valley july 19 to 22 inclusive was thor hughly enjoyed jy y a large number of 0 people including boy scouts and bee hive girls the number making the trip was estimated at many from st george santa clara wash nigton bigton leeds and the eastern settle ments being present the delight fully cool air and pure sweet water at pine valley was a great treat to those who had come from the lower ald tude those from st george especially enjoying the water after the interior quality water they get at home the visitors did not arrive at their destination all at the same time they arrived by auto wagon and some on hayracks As they arrived they pitch ed camp la in the pretty little town and made themselves comfortable some were invited into the homes of the residents others were invited to make their camp in barns etc while some pitched tents or erected wagon cover shelters eh elters all were protected many fish were caught and trout being fried waa was a common eight at the camps camp on wednesday night most of the visitors had arrived in time to attend the very fine concert given by the axie band under direction of prof earl tart J bleak followed by com community munt singing led by miss ida thursday july suly SO 20 A pl the bugler sounded reveille at 6 a in when the scouts got up made up their beds prepared and ate break fast the assembly was sounded at 9 46 45 and the call to colors was played by prof earl I 1 bleak the national flag was raised at 10 a tn by ranger S A macfarlane and the salute to the flag and pledge of allegiance lo legi ance was made by the following scout troops under leadership of W C cox scout commissioner troops one two and three st george santa clara troop and washington troop this was followed by the scouts singing bay are you ready and america fine program the no scouts and bee hive girls then gathered on the public square and gave exhibitions as follows pyra building by west ward scouts A under scoutmaster paul worthen 1 firemans lift and carry by santa clara scouts scotts under scoutmaster hen ry graft graff first aid bandaging and stretcher drill by washington scouts under scoutmaster job very good account of themselves at the washington county fair and homecoming the first week in september the fancy horseback riding contestants te were mable jarvis june bunker beatrice partha jacobson fay stirling and ethel mcmullin miss mcmullin of 0 leeds being the winner A campfire campf lre meeting and program was given at night by the bee hive girls as follows band selection long song exceedingly clever number and was loudly applauded I 1 song by lahorian La borlan borian swarm band selection following this program dancing on the green sward was merrily indulged in until midnight to the good music of the dixie band to top of mountain friday morning a large number of the visitors hiked to the top of pine valley mountain some going horse back some of those who missed this hike went saturday the editor did not go on this hike so has asked some of those who did to give their impressions of it which we will have in the next issue of the news those who went were delighted and charmed with the beautiful scenery which has been made readably readi bly acce accessible sible by good trails made and lately improved by the forest service friday night there was a camp fire meeting at which there was another dandy program including community singing and games and a solo by oil dil worth snow this was followed by a dance after the return from the hike sat arday there was another good dance at night those who went thoroughly enjoyed the outing and are boosting loudly in praise of delightful pine valley they returned home tired but pleased and happy it is 13 to be hoped more of the older folks will take in the out ing next year |
