Show WE THE GOINS FORTH the glorious fourth was loyally a celebrated here that it was no or va binary day was brought to the atten tion of the citizens by the boy scouts who started cannonading about 3 a I 1 in having slept out so as to be on hand at that early hour of the morn lt ing old glory was run up to the masthead at Oay daybreak break by captain brigham jarvis and then saluted by the boy scouts who had fallen in and marched to the city flagstaff for the purpose following the raising of the flag the martial band played f through the streets of the city although many of our citizens had gone elsewhere ilse where to spend the day IL some to zion national park some to pine valley and other places still there was a bigger turn out than usual for the program in the stake nacle at 10 80 a m the program 81 as published in this paper last week was rendered and was very interest ing ins the oration by pres edw H snow especially so the children had a dandy dance in the gymnasium at 2 0 clock cloel and sports followed at 3 30 p m the sports drew a big crowd together and if were entered into with great zest de spits spite the warm weather eather the children afe especially enjoying the good time the gails ball bar game this was by long odds the best amusement feature ot of the day the contest was between teams of the west ward Y L M I 1 A and the east ward Y L M I 1 A mainly bee hive girls the teams bad had been coached by clinton milne and wallace worthen and arid made a very good showing if they lacked in experience they made it up in n fire and enthusiasm thusia sm they did splendidly and are deserving of all the applause they got and a it good deal more the line up for the east ward was josephine hamblin pitcher kathleen gates catcher i alice milne first base basal addle For Pori lemaster emaster second base mable jarvis third base nellie 4 mcarthur fight right field venera wil 4 kins left field geld ruth bleak center 4 weld eldi dorothy nelson short stop leona cox zeima zelma sullivan helen forsha porsha josephine cannon and vera nera hartoon harmon sabeti the west ward ard lineup was blanch fullerton pitcher olive walker catcher inez whipple base gladys taylor second base edith spencer third base rachael miller tight right field mildred cragun left field mary miller center field rosa rose walker short stop substitutes mrs perry lang and ann bleak the gains game was a tie 1212 12 12 wel well and closely played ruth bleak made the only home run of the game the object of the game was to raise funds to help the bee hive girls tu to go to pine valley for the M I 1 A outing july 1 22 the game netted 35 33 75 which was divided between the two wards the sameness gameness of the girls was wonderful in their practice games they received many minor hurts as was to be expected considering they are all new now to the game one had sprained her ankle quite badly but despite this she played in the big eatoe game but was as handicapped in the running another had got her right hand badly bruised and the night before the game had it wrapped up in ice clothe cloths but this did not deter her from playing in the game it Is the intention to keep these two teams organized and active so the boys had better watch out for the girls will be taking their laurels from them it they don t hurrah for the girls back them up ud and encourage them they deserve it there was a big dance tor for adults at night which was very well attended and the electric theatre had a good show kazan and a two reel comedy the various committees are to be for success of the day |
