Show NO KUHR the long continued and unusual stormy weather prevented the dixie mid winter carnival being pulled off it was postponed from dec dee 2728 27 28 29 to dec dee 31 jan 2 3 4 last saturday being the only day that anything could be done it rained heavily sunday night and light rain a good part of monday turning into heavy rain again monday night on tuesday morning the carnival committee met and decided to aban abandon doir the carnival this winter the carnival committee regretted having to take this action very much as there was a it number of horses in from outside points that intended to compete in the races also a number of fancy ropers and visitors all of which gave promise of the most sue mid winter carnival ever held here the events that were pulled off were highly successful the first event of the carnival was a game of basket ball last thursday night between moccasin indians and cedar indians it was a dandy good game well played and hotly contest ed ending in favor of the moccasins with a score of 12 to 13 the men on the moccasin team were much smaller than their opponents but what they lacked in size and weight was amply compensated for in extra activity and trickiness double roping occupied saturday forenoon eleven teams entered and some excellent roping was done the contestants were corns and heckle thorn finlay and shanley sorensen and cunningham shanley and arid garrett whitehead and lund finlay and cunningham shanley and corns garrett and Heck lethorn radcliff and cobb radcliff and sorensen moore and baldwin the winning team was garrett and Heck lethorn time 32 26 28 second place was taken by Sh shanley ailley and corns time 38 26 25 third corns and Heck lethorn time 42 ball game in ili the after noon between cedar indians and moe cabin indians was won by moccasin with a score of 5 to 11 it was a better game than the score would in dacate some good playing being shown by both sides the superior activity of the moccasins won the game tor for them the indian powwow saturday night diew a big crowd and was very interesting large bonfires were made around which the indians ed and sang the whites joined in some of the dances and considerable amusement was afforded by the bells belle of the cedar indians calling on D 0 to join her in a dance which he did the dances held were well attended |
