Show 11 t A t LW ME VALLEY tha tho account of the M x I 1 A outing to pine valley can never tie be quite complete without learning af of the five mile hike that was taken up forsythe canyon by some of the pleasure seekers the company followed fol lovied by the pack horse which carried the noon lunch ended its way across the brush covered flat to the mouth of the canyon here majestic granite cliffs towered above ova while below the pines oaks quaking asps alps wild sowers flowers ferns and clear sparkling stream invited them to journey onward and upward tor for that was but a beginning of the beauties ahead onward they strove and at each bend bond in the canyon a new picture beckoned them forward under the leadership of a wise guide the hikers would climb for a ways then when the call for rest came they would completely relax and after a few minutes they were oa on their way again occasionally casio nally they refreshed themselves by drinking of the cool coot water which gurgled down over the rocks the well made trail which wound along oa first one elde side of the stream then the other added to the joy of hiking at the last spring of water the canteen was filled and land placed back on the horse this furnished water for them the remainder of the climb and back to the spring again on the return trip soon the inviting beds of clover called tor for a roll on its it here as well as in other interesting points the kodak was made use of the remnants of the old saw mill near the trail caused all to open their eyes in wonderment so far up la in the mountains 11 and however could alt it be reached before the present a trail j U aa as made and I 1 surely people never had lived there were only a few of the qu that were by this time naturally enough feelings of weariness were comno over members of the party but when a gap through tho the pines revealed aled lookout point ench each one resolved to wend hk or her way through the long grove of quaking sv ahead and reach the top by exhibiting the pluck that ev houm www po 94 h cull full OW pany that left pine valley in the morning made it to the top soon after noon now they having all stayed together the full time only those that have made the t h e trip to lookout point can image imagine n e what the view is like that stretches beyond every nook twist and turn south and west of pine valley can be seen from here the hikers seated themselves on convenient rocks and partook heartly of their lunches breathing deeply the mountain breezes all the while some members of the party went scouting about going over to the adjoining peak which Is the highest point on the mountain and then on into a small valley where the tall grass waves in the breeze and refreshing water flows on undisturbed other members lay down in the shade or sun whichever pleased them and rested after the climb they stayed on top about three hours by that time all felt so fresh that the journey back was made with a hop skip and jump down down and down the trail at the foot of the aspen grove and in a little ravine below a bank of snow was found the pockets of the pack saddle were filled and a treat was in store tor for the bikers hikers at dusk the jolly party still able to sing and run races arrived in pine valley that ice fee cream supper prepared by some who taken the trip will long be remembered as giving the proper climax to the trip in this company girls not more than thirteen made the trip as easily as older ones with such a delightful and interesting place to go why not make the hike up the mountain more popular and not stay away from the wonderland just because you do not baie haie a horse to ride ELEANOR SEE OMILLER |
