Show hurricane HURRICANE july 26 the realization ot of the fact that Hur hurricane rican needs a camping ground tor for the accommodation of tourists was brought about last week when several car loads of tourists came into town from the grand canyon and stopped over night here pending a further resumption ot of their trip to zion national park the following morning the party camped on tho the public square along side of the old church building this possibly is the best temporary camping ground that hurricane affords but with a little expense and labor this could be made much better it would be well to place a tap inside the ther square at this point so the tour ests could access cool refreshing water afforded by our water system wood should be placed at their dispo disposal bal tor for cooking purposes these two improvements and others unmentioned are very insignificant ant yet with their application present conditions would be much improved and in the meantime the citizens of p hurricane could be looking out a spot for or a permanent camp ground pioneer day was celebrated in fine style at hurricane beginning at daybreak with the firing of cannon the parade under the effi efficient clent leadership of J monroe ballard and his able assistants was a marked success and much credit la is due their efforts the parade consisted of floats mounted on trucks and decorated in compliance with the various stages of at advancement since founded by the pioneers first in order was utah as it used to be with its indian tribes and in fact everything of a savage nature then followed the pioneers after which came best crop with miss emma woodbury representing utah next came a beautifully decorated float goat representing the hurricane flour mill followed by the string band the procession sion toured the entire town after which all assembled at the school house and there a splendid program was rendered after the program the pioneers 22 in number was escorted to the home of mary diary W V hall where the relief society filled them with ice cream and cake for obituaries see next issue in the afternoon the crowd reassembled in front of the school house for the sports which A E hartley and his gang bad had arranged the feature of this part of the day was the suit case race between james W imlay james judd chauncey sandberg and ilar harold reeve the prize for this contest was as awarded james judd harold reeve who finished together mr air imlay failed to get off the line evidently pondering whether the arms of the nightgown he nas sup posed to put on were meant for legs or not he however redeemed himself by winning first prize in tha the tilting contest the base ball gamo game between hurricane and the visiting towns was very exciting and tho the out come was questionable until the last halt ot of the ath when hurricane took a 5 6 point lead on their contestants conten tants and won the game with a score of 8 0 to tu 4 following the game wm em mett jr rode a bucking horse which made him grab tor for everything in eight in order to stay on but ho he stay and won 6 5 00 tor for the effort it was found necessary to call the basket ball game off as there was no time left before the dance at night which ended the day the splendid music furnished by the harper a orchestra of cedar city was enthus plastically lastic ally appreciated by the masa mass which occupied the dance hall wo we say to them to give us some more arthur hall and family have purchased a home in monroe and ex hect to leave at once for their new habitat we regret to lose such worthy citizens however tha the best wishes of the community go with them mrs airs lizzie ballard succumbed to another sunstroke while watching the ball game on the and was several hours before she regained regains d her senses she elio Is much better at this writing mr air and sirs mrs chauncey sandberg an and d sheridan ballard returned last week from salt laka lake city where they I 1 have hay been attending summer school at the U or of U mr air and mrs warren cox and ant the younger members of their family mi ali and mrs lea led cox mrs vernon vernoll chuich and airs afro john lee left monday for foe los angeles and other coast points where they expect to spend about six weeks mrs isaac hunt hut t accompanied then them to visit her son fi in a los las An angeles geleng |
