Show donald has very ine opportune Op brest france feb 12 1918 erelson Mr Elson morris st george utah friend elson I 1 received your most welcome let ter some time ago and have actually forgotten whether I 1 have answered it or not it I 1 have not I 1 will beg your pardon now for being so negligent I 1 certainly appreciate the letter which goes without saying and am always glad to hear from you since the armistice we have been busily engaged in the work of embarkation bar kation getting our tellow soldiers home as fast as possible we are pretty busy here it you would drop in some time you would find me at my desk burled in a stack of papers and plowing through them I 1 am la the record department at base head quarters I 1 have charge of that dept the work has been very interesting and I 1 feel that I 1 have received a great deal of value from it I 1 see gordon sullivan and bert riding every few days every four months over here we are entitled to a leave of absence I 1 have been here 14 months now and have never taken advantage of a leave so now I 1 am about to take a good one on the I 1 am leaving tor the following trip the night of the sergt michaud and I 1 leave brest and arrive in paris the next morning we will remain at paris all that day and that night and then leave for le harve on the we take the boat from le harve tor southampton england from southampton we are going to london and spend about seven days in london and vicinity we will then return to brest by way of le harve and paris again what do you think of the trip but here is the best of all that I 1 want to tell you about A wonderful opportunity has presented itself to me we have just received word that a certain number of men in the A E F who have two years college credit or its equivalent will be sent by the government to french and english universities the course will end june I 1 put in an application for admittance to an english university my application haa been approved at this headquarters and will now go to general headquarters for final action since it has been passed upon here I 1 now test almost sure of it it I 1 receive admittance I 1 will probably be ordered to england as soon as I 1 return from my leave of absence to report to either oxford or cambridge it la such a fine opportunity that I 1 was never happier I 1 can pick up from 12 to 16 hours of credit by june besides attending oxford or cambridge if I 1 am accepted I 1 shall take courses in english government and some economic problems what do you think well old top it I 1 getting late and time I 1 was getting home must ring off hope all la tip top with you and hope to see you in the good old summer time back in our dear old dixie with kind regards and best wishes I 1 am as ever your friend donald pyram mgt major A S C A P 0 A E |
