Show utah lands to be reclaimed for soldiers W F jensen member of the state council of defense returned last night from washington D 0 where he attended meetings ot the war industries dus tries hoard mr jensen saya that complaints that utah was not receiving her share of war industries may now be turned to thanksgiving he explains that with the war over those states which were called upon to do the most ot this work must now make the biggest readjustments it will enable utah to return her men to work with the slightest inconvenience he says mr jensen says that vast reclamation projects are being worked out to find work tor returning soldiers and that tor this purpose a conference ot governors has been called to be held in washington next month no state in the union he says has as great an acreage of land with the necessary water available as has utah almost a million acres of land can be reclaimed in utah I 1 confer red with members of the interior department part ment in washington and with secy franklin K lane in person and I 1 am satisfied that the government Is going to develop all of tho available land in this state not only will the projects themselves be worked out auf the transportation facilities which are just as vital as Is the water will be provided by the government 1 I urged that the perfection of an irrigation project in utah without giving the farmer a chance to move that which he can produce would involve a vast waste of time the old idea of not installing the transportation por tation until there Is something to produce Is one on the wane among the officials they are of the opinion that the two projects are equally important and should be equally developed ve the development of utah ands within the next few years by irrigation and the construction of the necessary roads and railway lines will mean an addition of fully a halt million to the population of the state and this in turn will necessarily mean a large increase in the population of salt lake city mr jensen says that things he aw convinced him that america had hardly got started with war business once gotten under full pressure no power on earth could have stopped america he says he will make a detailed report of his trip at the next meeting of the state council ot defense deseret news |
