Show quarterly conference st george stake of zion the regular conference of the st george slake of zion wis held in the tabernacle here last saturday and bunday apostle A W ivins wa present also all of the stake presidency and a very large number of saints from the outside settlements the conference was a verv enjoyable one much good advice both spin tuil and temporal being given the pres E H snow was the firby speaker saturday morning hewel corned the and told them of the many things for which they had cause to be grateful to our heavenly father spoke of the reclamation project under consideration by the government and the promise this gave for the advancement of dixie hoped the saints would always keep the vows and covenants made to the lord if we do our part the lord will always do his we must live the simple life if we to live our best and do the most good the present war restrictions placed on us are all good and will prove of much benent to us all we should be con tented and happy and do our duty cheerfully we must cling to the promises of the lord elder geo F jar vis said among other things that we should be grate ful for the blessings of the lord and his promises prom ibes and live so as to be dei serving of them I 1 apostle A W ivins stated that be was much pleased with pres snows report gave an account of the growth of this southern stake einie 22 years ago the schools of this slake are now greatly advancer I 1 and are dome much good and we should be appreciative of our bless ings was glad to see so many at conference our soldier boys should pray sincerely and often made mention of visiting general ing in mexico and sitting down to dinner with him and bis officers general asked elder ivina to bless the food showing great reverence for god pres because of its great past and its future as told by the prophets also because of its splendid eions we should all keep the commandments mand ments of the lord aud he fit ted to receive his blessings many were doing good work in the bt r george temple more then usual pree david H cannon said he knew the leaders of the church to be men of god made mention of having seen the prophet joseph and of how he impressed him told of the generosity of bangham young in the people during great scarcity of food gave an account of the dixie mission in 1861 and bangham young s promise to those called here that they would see the day when they would be glad they came spoke of the spirit of prophecy that had actuated lorenzo snow bow he had told elder cannon that he must stay in dixie and would never regret it this bad been fulfilled spoke of the word of wisdom and the i attendant on its observance the temple la open to those serving god and I 1 rejoice much in the work being done for the the i the sunday forenoon session of the conference was presided over by apostle A W bvm prea E H snow was in charge elder adim bennon of the S gen baird was also present bupt supt jos K spoke on the relationship of alie priesthood and the sunday schools elder adam bennion stated he was much pleaded with his visit to st george told the children a very interesting story of a boy who deceived his father was punished for it and learned a valuable lesson spoke on present day sibil aties showing that if each task is at ticked singly we can do all that is required of us well and pleadingly gave an account of the great work by the solders at the bittle of verdun under very trying conditions of the great suffering nf miny sol diers and how cheerful ly they bore them gave a number of illustrations showing that we should give rather than receive asked if we were serving others as we should what are we offering to our sunday schools told of the good that comes to fathers by taking their children out with them at the afternoon services the general and local authorities of the church were presented for the sustaining vote of the saints and nil unanimously sustained pres geo F whitehead gave an account of the great material progress made in dixie in the last past 23 years most of this being made within the recent six years we feel better as we learned to know one another better ridding ourselves of prejudice and misunderstanding learning to appreciate each other better looking for the virtue rather than the faults and we love our church more gaining confidence in its management and love for its lead era when doing our duty we will not find fault and criticize our leaders the people of this stake are a good people but could and should improve a good deal spiritually and by so doing get the benefits of the gospel we must all grow gradually and surely by self effort elder A W ivins read from the scriptures in appreciation of the many childred present at the morning meeting they being a great reward and blessing to us and to their parents by whom we live again in the service of the lord many may become great in the worlds affairs but unless they are righteous and god fearing all is as nothing unless they become devoted father and mothers they have missed the great blessing of life if any are or become soldiers they should be good and true in even sense physical courage be had found waa nearly always present in man but moral courado in many is lacking elder adam bennion made the statement that the biggest man in the horld 19 he who has raised a noble made mention of the force of habit as being a great factor in the life of both man and baist giving many illustrations in support of this some of them very humorous baid a great tribute to the successful mother as the greatest teacher in the world parents should find out what their children do well and good and encourage them along this line rather than telling them what not to do the boys and girls
