Show NEEDED SUPPLY OF POTASH all that I 1 required la to deeply and bring lower soils into contact aith the air there is a good deal of talk in ad lanced farm circles as to what weare we are going to do for a supply of potash now since the importation from germany Is cut off so far as ordinary soils are concerned that need can be readily supplied it the farmer will but resolutely face the problem of deep plow ing says hoard s dairyman all 0 the loner soils contain a large supply of potash all that is needed to bring it into use and profitable contact with grow ing plants is to go down after it plow the land twelve to sixteen inches deep bring up that stilt impenetrable subsoil and give it contact with the air mix it with the top soil and give ij contact with the manure and other forms 0 humus that will set the potash free put it in shape so the roots of plants can utilize it we do not need to do this deep plowing every year once in five 01 six years will do but we will know a good deal more about it and the benefits that come from it in various ways it we once set about it in a practical earnest manner host farm ers dread to start in this work they dislike to incur the expense of a deep tilling plow and they are skeptical as to the results but they always will be in dread and always will be skeptical until they go ahead and put themselves where they can see and learn one benefit is that ou can get at your deeply plowed land several daya earlier in the spring clayey soil lose time in the spring every farmer is afraid of plowing them until they are well dried out for fear of their being lumpy all the summer long but deep plowing helps a great deal in this respect |
