school was taken up in the D where they hid their pictures taken when the girls went down the ath year boys put on a second coat of whitewash in the gymnasium miss evans his trained the girls carefully in dancing and movements but they felt the necea ity of a romp out of boora in the bright sunshine accordingly last thursday the first year gym 1 went for an outing they chased around jumped fences climbed the black hill and thoroughly enjoyed themselves then came back tired and warm but feeling fine over their trip SOME IDEAL conditions FOR A SANITARY TOWN written by a member of home economics class light air water and food are the four greit primary need in the life of man and flipse must be in sufficient quantity and good quality civilized man protects his body with clothing and has a good shelter in the form of a house he spend one half or two thirds of hia time in this bouc and it should be healthful in all respects in keeping our own homes and surroundings deal and sanitary we help more than in any other way to keep a sanitary and respectable town one that we would not be ashamed for anyone to go through and inspect if each individual family keeps their home free from filth the town in general will most certainly be free from filth in the firt place each house should be constructed in a way eliat will be the easiest to keep sanitary it should hive windows and openings placed so the natural light or sunshine can get into berv corner because the sun is the best natural pur efler there is there should au be care taken in the location of the houe if the ground is water soaked aad swampy any one can plainly aee that it would breed germs if there is no natural way in which alie land can bo drained there should be an artificial made the water should be carried in to some place where it cm be before it is used either by other men or animals tf any kind if there is to be a cellar under alie house it should be built to keep the water out and to have plenty of areah air circulating ib there should be no rough wills and ceilings where dust and filth can accumulate we all know that tho codori froin the cellar comes up through the floor into the houe if there plenty of ventilation to carry it out somewhere home where else if there is a good circulation of fresh pure air the odors from the cellar will not be offensive because the fruit or whatever the cellar contains will be kept free from must and mold the openings are not properly made unless they are fromont to two feet from the ground and screened well to keep out leaves trash and other vi ible objects if a family has any respect for others or interest in their town they will not let trash or rubbish of any kind lie around on their premises any organic mitter they will destroy ind the inorganic matter such as old cans pieces of broken dishes and bottles they will haul out of town and put in some wash or hollow and cover them with a load of earth if they care for the reputation of their town they will not put them where abe will be een by every one who pisses either going into or out of town the one who thinks about the health of the town will not take ins inorganic matter where it is liable to be carried back into town by floods or streams when it rams or where the germs that lie in lucli matter will not reach anyone parsing by we all know how offensive it is to be going along the street and come in contact with an odor or stench strong enough to strangle us from some corral pigpen pig pen or toilet besides the awful smell we have been taught that are many millions of germs in lucli places and we know that they are the breeding place of the greit pest tho housefly we also know that the fly carries the fernn found in filthy places to us in the house and into everything in the house especially our foods the man who lias any re hect for himself or his town will not let his corral become ft bithy anity place but will u to it that no one will have to bold their handkerchief over their noe no e when they pass his place he will keep his pigpen pig pen as well his corral clean and sprinkled with dis infecting powder so flies cannot live around his place he will have ins toilet well back from the street ind will leave a vault in it that can be taken out and the waste matter taken off and burned or disposed of in some other sanitary sini tary wiy ho will keep thise well cleaned out all the time so there will be no chance for germs to be spread because of his neglect we know how unsanitary conditions in a town will cause and also lower the reputation of the people in that town if a stranger is coming to a town and just before he enters he bees piles of old cans and other inorganic matter he will leave very poor opinion of alie people and when befaro he acta to the lintel lie pisses a number of filthy linking corrals a d pigpens pig pens near the street he soon decides that he will get out of that town as soon as possible and that ho would never avo let all of us do what we can to mike our town what it ought to bo and make a good jhc in which to live heathy t |
