Show county is 0 working for highway hurricane rutih jan 18 editor J Georg eUtah willis I 1 wish to report our trip to kanab as I 1 think it will be of interest toy our albert anderson president of the toquerville commercial club and I 1 returned a few days ago from a trip to kanab where we vent in the interest of the state grand canyon highe o upon our arrival there we ere met by D D rust and taken to hotel highway where we were entertained our stav monday night the silver band consisting of about twenty members were out and gathered i large crowd for our meeting the county news devoted one issue to the high w ay iy proposition and aroused consul able interest throughout the county and a result all the county commissioners ners and many other prominent men of the county were present at the meeting and took active part at the close of the meeting a purse of 00 was thrown together to start the bill rolling and before we left town the next day the amount was increased to 1002 50 A number of the most wealthy men were away from home and were not given a chance to assist and it is ver ekeh that the amount subscribed will amount to everyone seemed enthusiastic over the highway and I 1 believe there are enough wires in kanab to follow up the work until the highway is completed kot only kanab is interested but long valley as w ell one gentleman from Orde mlle met me on the street and without solicitation handed 25 and several others contributed smaller amounts they realize that a highway built through dixie and kanab to the grand canyon will necessitate the completion of the one down the sevier and on to kamb ao kiy come over the lincoln highway and pee the canyon and out the western route and on to the coast alie counte people are desirous of having the convicts continue work from hurricane to kanab and then work north to about liala the roid between hurricane and kanab lies in arizona leaving only thirty of road to be made in utah and nearly all efthia is over lev el country which would work rapidly alio convicts will begin work on the hurricane hill this week and hurricane alaa a force of thirty teams working on the highway at goulds every effort is being made to complete the highway in time to secure the traffic next summer worthy mention should be made of the people of iron county who hive for more than three months contributed about 1000 iba of oats per day for the feeding of the thir ty five teams with the convict camp the towns of toquerville hurricane and have contributed heavily to the work and it is expected eliat every town in dixie will be given an opportunity to assist in the completion of this work yours respectfully CHAS state grind canavon apy |
