Show state union of fruit growers final steps toward the formation of the utah fruit growers association taken yesterday afternoon at i meeting of alie committee of 28 elected at a recent horticulturists convention at ogden to solve marketing problem the meeting was held in the club and the report of the sub committee on ways and means was heard and adopted at a recent convention in ogden when the large committee was appointed it was given plenary power and now that alie method has been adopted immediato steps still bo taken to put it into operation letters will bo sent out to the different growers an organizer will be secured and meetings will beheld in the various communities in the fruit sections of the state it ia expected that all fruit growers will enter into contract conti act with the organization to support it and allow it to handle this fruit the aims and purposes of the association aa outlined in the report of alie sub committee adopted at yesterdays meeting are as follows to market distribute or otherwise dispose of alie fruit crop to lebson the cost of marketing by creating agencies that will act for each member to insure the collection of sales to facilitate the collection of damage claims to encourage the improvement of the product and the package to increase the consumption of fruit by advertising and developing ve new markets to aid in supplying ill alie people with good fruit at a reasonable price to furnish reliable information on market auces puces and market and crop conditions throughout the country and to co operate with the local association in the construction and operation of canneries and evaporators with a view of completing the link in the marketing chain for the purpose of facilitating business the big association will be divided into branches one of which nil be located in cacci fruit section alie association is to be incorporated with shares at sl each and is to be organized on a nonprofit non profit basis each fruit grower is to subscribe for stock in proportion to the number of trees he owns in addition to the main organization which has for its chief work the distribution of the fruits of the various growers n supply company is to be formed which will secure supplies and sell them to to the members of the association at cost price As the purpose of the association 19 understood to bo to handle tho alie fisit of the growers on a nonprofit basis any surplus accruing at the close of the year is to be pro rated back to the growers in proportion to alie goods h indeed from them it is stipulated in alie method of organization and operation that all members of alio general association arc to bo bound to the local assoni in the in which their fruit is raised and those local associations to be bound to the state by uniform crop contracts f the members of the committee present at afternoons meeting were G W palmer farm agton A D miller clearfield B L lewis woods cross D F smith fann ington B V dr chos G plummer cr J edward toy lor J 0 smith and J C stay salt lake J W fox sr and U G miller murray J M white ogden J P christeneen ben bangham cit J B walton provo H 11 thompson roy wm H homer jr pleasant grove A G stoddard spanish fork aco romney jr A r f f r smithfield L A ball logon the following visitors were also in attendance C A den J M smith dropper woodbury granger J fled odell woods cross C B stewart salt like and A V taylor and dr C A wherry isalt lake representing the horticultural committee of the compier cial club following ia the committee on or dr chas G plummer wm H homer jr H H thompson geo W palmer U G miller geo romney jr at the request of the commercial club horticultural committee D F smith left 13 and J edward tailor cre appointed a committee to confer with alio club committee with an idea of improving conditions on the salt lake market news |
