Show dynamiting DRY FARM SOILS some tremendous yield havo been obtained my ung this method instead of plowing some have used this method for crops instead 0 plowing and some tremendous yields have been obtained on small plats but we have had no chance of comparing the cost with tha results on a large acreage says tha blanch and ranger dynamiting we for trees however la becoming corn mon and the expense la halt a stick ol 01 dynamite one cap and about two feet of fuse for each tree A hole 13 bored with the soil auger about two feet or 30 inches where the tree is to go the halt stick ot dna mite is inserted with cap and fuse at cached and then the dirt Is replaced in the hole around the tree tamping with a stick as it is filled in after the explosion two or ahrea swings of the shovel will clear tha hole ready to set the tree the sub soli will bo found shattered ehatt ered to some extent in the neighborhood of the hole and athla Is supposed to be beneficial in allowing the roots to penetrate a hard pan until some one plants some trees in dynamited holes and some others in ordinary holes alongside of them it will be impossible to come to any definite conclusion as to the advantage if any derived from dynamiting we know that deep plowing is tha best way out in dry farming tor the same reason dynamiting ought to be good we also know from our own experience peri ence in the dry farm orchard that tho roots will go through any soil hard pan provided it Is moist and it Is al ways moist in the well cultivated or chard where the trens are not too close together |
