Show QUARTERLY conference big attendance and much good advice given apostle john henry smith present the regular quarterly conference of the st george stake of zion was held in the stake tabernacle saturday and sunday march 5 and 6 apostle john henry smith was pre sent as was alao all members of the stake presidency a fair representation of the high council and a good attendance of alie saints SATURDAY A 31 pros ed H snow greeted the people who were in attendance at this conference and particularly commended those from outside settlements tle ments he spoke of alie good health enjoyed by the people of the stake and gave some statistics pertaining to the stake of marriages attendance meetings missionaries the payment of tithes and offerings fe rings etc commended the bishops and ward clerks for their faithful labors in the way of making up reports etc made mention of alie damage done by high water and said in most cases the dams and ditches were again restored and alio water was in the towns and fields advised the saints to bo energetic in their labors and prepare foi the future both in a temporal and spiritual way said lie would like il to see the saints file on the available lands and waters in this locality elder bangham jarvis spoke to the conference upon alie first principles of atie gospel and told of the blessings that come from a proper observance of the laws of alie gospel bishop william E abbott of the mesquite quite ward reported that section said floods and high waters of the virgin river hid done much damage to their lands and homes since dec 1 the people hid spent most of their time repairing their dams and ditches however they had to attend to their ward organizations and to their duties to god at the present time Me quite had three elders in the missionary field and one recently returned expected to send two more in the near future elder george W worthen george expressed his pleasure in reporting his labors in the colorado minion from where he had recently returned alie lord had been with him and lie was treated with kindness related some of ins experiences perien ces while laboring among the indians in the state of nebraska baid they were a very intelligent class of people possessing fine homes and farms and some of them were very religious in their nature apostle john henry smith exi pressed his pleasure in meeting with the people of dixie and said he was enjoying the spirit of tins conference he upon the system of missionary work being carried on in alie world today said most of the millenaries mil lenaries are oung men this conference damage had been done in some parts of the stake by hoods might be the cause of turning the attention of the people to tho higher binds spoke of the stake academy and thanked the people of alie stake for the support being given by them in alic erection of the building elder henry R atkin related some of his experiences in the southern states mission field also spoke on alie restoration of alie gospel and made miny interesting comments on same elder samuel of santa clara bore a strong testimony to the truth of the gospel and to the divinity of the mission of the prophet joseppi smith elder schuyler everatt B iid lie was born in the church knew the gospel was true and had always found much consolation in it he was acquainted the prophet joseph smith who he knew was of god eldri lemuel R abbott of the ward spoke of his labors in the southern states mission held from which he had recently returned and made some comments on the gospel apostle john henry smith said he had taken much pleasure in the spirit of the meeting and made mention af pf subjects treated by the preceding speakers told of one man not of the church who has for some time been associated in a business way with a number of prominent church culs but not one of them hid ever mentioned the gospel to lam and he was lead to wonder if ho was worth salvation said we strive to tho gospel to human martin L mcallistor cr told of the value of sunday school work to the children and made mention of alie good work done by the parents class sister ethel jarvis told the children a story of an indian princess the moral of winch was to obey the counsel of parents and others choso whoso right it is to counsel and advise bupt supt miles commended the children for the good order maintained and aavo counsel along the lines of obedience and regard for presiding officers and cited cases in bible history when disobedience brought sorrow and elder wilford II ancock spoke entertainingly of his in the them busy elder john W judd reported his labors in the california mission field he had enjoyed his labors while in the sen ice of the lord and gave a very interesting account of ins experiences and the system under missionary work is carried on in that field elder acil forsyth reported his labors in great britain from which mission he had recently returned said ins mission had been the most valuable time in ins life while there were many unpleasant features in connection with a mission in that country still many pleasant things come our way miss ruth morns sang one sweetly solemn thought apostle smith said ho had taken great pleasure in this conference had enjoyed the music the remarks and reports of preceding speakers told of his experiences in the english mission field spoke feelingly of alie parly settlers of dixie and paid them much honor said it would not bo long ere tho elivea of noble men and would be a matter of history oab in ins travels he often meets men and women whom lie was acquainted with a man in st george and ho generally found them among the leaders of the communities muni ties where they reside made boino interesting comments upon alio proper
