Show flag presentation very interesting and enjoyable enjoy able exercises were held in the tabernacle friday evening the occasion was the presentation of a flag by col E W of salt lake city in behalf of oliver 0 howard post no 7 dept of utah of the G A R the exercises were tinder under the auspices of the woodward school and there was a large attendance of parents and friends of tho the pupils principal elmer miller of tho the woodward school presided the exercises commenced with tho the singing of the sword of bunker hill which was exquisitely rendered by miss bliss viola mcallister A duet the tho dying soldier I 1 I 1 was excellently sang by misses mane and verna miles this number aias ft as followed by the mar sel sell laise alse sung by miss bliss mano mca qu rrie principal miller then introduced col E W a veteran of the grand army who served upward of four years in the civil war with the third iowa cavalry the colonel made a splendid patriotic speech which was frequently applauded in ii which he gave a brief history of the glorious emblem of liberty and paid a glowing tribute to those who laid down theia lives to uphold it he then presented the beautiful flag ft hon D H morris accepted the flag ft in a very fine in the course of which he thanked tho the oliver 0 howard honard post G A R through col for the beautiful gift assuring him that it would be highly prized and respected principal elmer miller expressed tho the thanks of the school in a neat little and school Tru james mcarthur expressed the appreciation of the school board for tho the gift and assured col that the flag would be kept on the school flagstaff fl A quartette our U S A was then very sweetly rendered by four children fern whitehead Whit chead ruthie winsor paul thurston and geo christi in col asked the audience to raise and instructed them hor ho the flag should bo be saluted and said bald another flag should bo be provided to replace tho the one just given when it was born out warren cox returned tuesday from silt salt like lake city where ho he had bad been attending a meeting of the studebaker bros representatives from the mountain states with the heads of tho studebaker bros firm A banquet was given the representatives and a very enjoyable time was had bad work is going steadily along on tho the stake academy good s having been made this week the rock malls w alls are going up in fine shape each piece being ne neatly itly laid and fitted if the present vr progress ogress is continued the building will bo be completa comp lct within a few months mr r ind nd mrs J A crecelius of silver reef were here last friday to talo tale in tho the alig presentation exer aises they expect to leave in about a abak in eak for los angeles C cil ia mr crecilius has had charge of tho the brundage mine and null property at the reef but has di dismantled tho null mill until better transportation facilities are afforded tins this bention bec tiou tion |
