Show Individuals Instead of Banks Must Buy Bonds During September "It's up to all of' us as individuals individ-uals this time," thus spoke Glenn E. Snow, county Bond chairman, in outlining the Bond drive which gets underway on Sept. 9th. "In the first big Bond drive last April, the banks, cities and big corporations corpor-ations bought a major portion of the Bonds, but this time the government is eliminating them from the drive and asking that the people of the nation buy the Bonds." However, Bond drive chairmen feel assured that the county will again reach its quota, since they point out that the orchardists, farmers and stockmen have received re-ceived large sums of money from their produce and stock and that much of this money should be available for the purchase of government gov-ernment Bonds. Women Plan Active Part As in the first drive, the ladies, under the leadership of Mrs. John J. Phoenix Jr., county women's Bond chairman, are planning for an active part in the drive. Mrs. Phoenix explains that they are asking the women of the county to spend the money that they noramlly would spend on entertainment enter-tainment on Stamps and Bonds. (Continued on page four) Sept. Bond Drive (Continued from first page) Stamps are to be featured as the prizes at all clubs and parties and the women are asked to bring one Stamp with them to each party. One Stamp from each table will be retained by the committee and the other three will be given to high scorers. The Stamps retained by the committee will be held until the night of Sept. 29, when they will stage a large party and these stamps will then be given to the high scorers. Only those women who have entertained a group of ladies at a party where Stamps have been used as prizes will be invited to attend this final party. Those who are on the women's general committee in addition to Mrs. Phoenix are as follows: Mes-dames Mes-dames Mack Crandall, R. N. Ash-by, Ash-by, Jennie Brown, Howard Judd, Reid Mathis, Clark Empey and Wayne Whitehead. Mrs. K. M. Cannon is to be in charge of the Rook activities and will announce her committee members in next week's issue of the News. |
