Show Importance of Relics Stressed at Meet of Daughters of Pioneers The value of pioneer relics, songs, books, manuscripts, clothing and other articles which will assist as-sist in preserving the historical background and progress of communities com-munities was stressed by Mrs. Kate B. Carter. State D U P Captain of Salt Lake City, in addressing ad-dressing the large group of D U P officers and members who assembled as-sembled Saturday Oct. 13 at 3 p. m. in the banquet room of the McQuarrie Memorial Hall for their annual convention. Vice Captain .Eleanor Gibbons conducted the program. Captain Annie B. Schmutz, who recently returned from the Western States mission, presiding. Besides the spirited and constructive address of Mrs. Carter, reports were made by the Manomas Andrus, Foster and Dixie Camps of St. George, the South and Young Elizabeth Steel Camps of Hurricane, the Cotton Factory Camp of Washington, Washing-ton, Swiss Camp of Santa Clara and Pilot Peak Camp of Enterprise. Enter-prise. All reports indicated active Camps, holding regular meetings, remembering living pioneers with parties and celebrating historical events, especially Pioneer Day. There were musical numbers by the Foster Camp orchestra, a vocal trio "Sweet Belle Mahone" by members of the Swiss Camp, and community singing. With the Utah Centennial approaching, Mrs. Carter urged that every camp work for increased membership member-ship among the daughters, granddaughters grand-daughters and great-grand-daughters of pioneers, and stimulate the learning of folk dances and pioneer pion-eer folk songs, and the gathering of relics, histories, pioneer lore, lore. |
