Show Gov. Blood Pays Surprise Visit To Zion Easter Service Southern Utah was given two opportunities of attending Easter services last Sunday. First at the sunrise services in the amphitheatre amphi-theatre here in St. George and second at the sunset services in Zion National Park. The park services were climaxed by an Easter day address1 by Governor Gover-nor Henry H. Blood. The Governor's Gov-ernor's address followed the presentation pre-sentation of the sacred oratorio, "The Seven Last Words of Christ," which was presented by the Dixie college chorus under the direction of Joseph W. McAllister. Mc-Allister. The presence of Governor Blood camo as a surprise to those who attended the services since no publicity had been given out to the effect that he would be present. pres-ent. He was accompanied by Mrs. Blood to the service. The Governor complimented the park service and the people of Southern Utah in the use of the park for such a service. He declared that if there were anything any-thing on earth capable of inspiring inspir-ing men on earth it should be the majestic grandeur of the Zion Canyon mountains. Many Attend It is estimated that nearly 800 attended the services held here, in the ampitheatre while approximately approx-imately 1500 listened to the services serv-ices in the park. People were present Prom all the communities of the southern part of Utah with lour stakes being represented in the services. The stakes represented repre-sented were Zion, Kanab, Paro-wan Paro-wan and St. George. The program pro-gram opened with a talk by superintendent P. P. Patraw, in which he outlined the inauguration inaugura-tion of this annual event and expressed ex-pressed the .hope that residents of Utah would consider thie park and its 'facilities as' theirs to use and enjoy. President Claud Hirschi of the Zion Park tStake conducted the services. The opening prayer was given by William R. Palmer, president of the Parowan stake; Walter K. Granger of Cedar City gave the address of welcome, and the benediction was offered by President Charles Heaton of Kanab stake. Big Day at Park The largest single day's attendance attend-ance in the park was reported for Easter Sunday when over 3000 entered the park. This is approximately ap-proximately 1000 more than last year which was the peak up until un-til that time. ' Travel at the park has been consistently over last year's record Superintendent Pat-raw Pat-raw reports. Many improvements are being inaugurated to better serve the increasing number of Visitors who attend the park each year. |
