Show DEBATE AND PUBLIC SPEECH The public speaking department depart-ment of the Dixie college is anticipating an-ticipating an unparalleled year , of activity this year. The De-I De-I bating team has been enlarged ; to a total of eight members. Two complete teams representing both the affirmative and negative nega-tive have been selected, four of I whom have already engaged in jtwo practice debates. The first - of these debates was with the j Branch Agricultural College, and : was held in the assembly of the : Dixie College on March 1st. The other was a practice debate with the Brigham Young University. Both were held at the Dixie College. The four members that wer selected first on the team, and who have engaged in practice . debates, were as follows: Alma :Cottam and Karl J. Wilkinson Affirmative. Jack Spencer and ; Wayne Wilson Negative. Tuesday Tues-day afternoon (March 6th the other four were selected from eight participants. They nr? Mary Mlorris, .Edwin Demille, Rulon Orton. and Ernest Lee. From the total of eight mem- : bers a team of four will later be selected to represent the Dixie College at the Junior College Debate De-bate Tournament which is to be held at the Brigham Young University Uni-versity on April 6th and 7th. On March 9th at one o'clock the four debaters last chosen will engage in debate with Snow College Col-lege in a non-decision practice debate. On March 16th, thir. same team will go to the Branch Agricultural College for a return re-turn Debate. The other four on the debate team will meet the University of Utah in debate at the Dixie College on the morning of March 17th. The question that is being debated de-bated this year is ."Resolved That the Powers of the President of the United States should be substantially sub-stantially increased as a settled policy." It should be very interesting in-teresting to any one who is interested in-terested in our present governmental govern-mental changes. An extemporaneous speaking team was also selected on March 6 th. The three selected were chosen from a group of seven competitors. com-petitors. The three selected were as follows: Alma Cottam, Karl J. Wplkinson, and Ina Blake. These three will represent Dixie College in an extemporaneous speaking contest with Snow College Col-lege on March 9th, at ten o'clock in the Dixie College auditorium. The "Robert L. Judd" medal will be awarded to the best speaker from Dixie "in this contest. |
