Show ECONOMIC DEPENDENCE ANALYZED Booklet Released by American Ameri-can Mining Congress Gives Results of Year's Study of Conditions in Utah The Utah chapter, American Mining Congress, has released a printed booklet which analyzes the economic dependence of the entire' population of Utah. The booklet, which presents the con-' con-' elusions of almost a year's original ori-ginal statistical research work , by Rolland A. Vandergrift and j associates, specialists in economic i and governmental research, is is-' is-' sued under the title, "The Economic Eco-nomic Dependence of the Population Popu-lation of Utah." The research it summarizes was undertaken by the Vandergrift organization at metal r.W operators. The Vandergrift organization's study of "the iconoT;::: !t-ructure of Utah develops the fact that the entire population of Utah is, in final analysis, dependent upon six basic or primary industries. Only a portion of the actual workeTS Of, Utah are 'employed directly by these six activities. The rest of the workers are employed em-ployed by the service group of industries. The six industries are metal mining, agriculture, transportation, trans-portation, manufacturing, coal mining and wholesale distribution. distribu-tion. " : . "V-' The percentage distribution P the economic dependence of the entire population of Utah is1 as follows: Metal mining, 47 per cent; agriculture, 17 per cent; transcontinental transportation, 13 per cent; manufacturing, 11 per cent; coal mining, 9 per cent; wholesale distribution to other states, 2 per cent. The economic dependence of the 507,821 persons resident in Utah is as follows: Metal min- ing, 239,605 persons; agriculture, agricul-ture, S7.460 persons, transportation, transpor-tation, 6S.312 persons; manufacturing, manu-facturing, 54,114 persons; coal j mining, 46,052 persons; wholesale whole-sale distribution, 12,278 persons. The population dependent upon up-on each of the six primary industries in-dustries consists of the persons directly engaged in the industry : itself and their departments plus . the population dependent upon : employment that furnishes industrial, in-dustrial, trade and professional 1 service to the employees of that industry and to each other. j In addition to presenting the results of the survey, the bulle-j bulle-j tin describes the methods used j by the Vandergrift organization j in determining the economic dependence de-pendence of Utah. The results of the survey represent estimates which may be considered as close, conservative, dependable approximations to the truth. |
