Show FATHERS & SONS OUT AT PINE VALLEY MTN. (By Geo. Brooks, Jr.) In behalf of the Scout and Stake Y. L. M. I. A. officers, we feel to express ex-press appreciation to those who assisted as-sisted in making it such a grand success. suc-cess. The scheduled program was not adhered to exactly owing to the fact that we were unable to put the road from Pine Valley to the camp near the scout house in passable shape before be-fore the outing. On arriving at Pine Valley Thursday Thurs-day morning all turned out with borrowed bor-rowed tools from the very generous people of Pine Valley who also assisted as-sisted with the work. In all there were about 130 visitors about 75 scouts, 25 little boys and 30 dads, six scout troops represented. By Thursday evening we were successful suc-cessful in landing the car belonging to John Riding at the camp, the first car. The next morning 63 more cars left PIrte Valley. AH turned out again and by noon our camp was made at the cabin with 14 cars and three wagons, and about 20 saddle horses. The afternoon was spent, the scouts in charge of B. Glen Smith and Leo A. Snow, the "Dads" on the house In charge of Chester A. Kemp, and the little boys fishing. A splendid camp fire program in the evening. Wednesday morning those having horses left camp at 7 a. m. to make the loop and to the highest point on the south while all on foot made the peak west of the new bridge at Pin-tura Pin-tura where fine views of Parowan, Cedar flat, Kanarra, Toquerville, La Verkin and Hurricane, and all the broken country surrounding lay before be-fore ns. A thrill was given by discovering that a mountain lion had followed a deer over the trail the previous night. Two live deer were seen. Under direction of Mr. Smith fifty varieties of beautiful flowers were collected and named. Of those making the hike Uncle George Cottam was the oldest and his grandson Mason the youngest. At the top of the mountain a fine talk on geology was delivered by Leo A. Snow. Those going up the Whipple trail on foot numbered 64. Again we wish to express appreciation apprecia-tion to the Pine Valley people for the hearty cooperation shown to us, and the sacrifice made by Bro. B. Glen Smith, who came from Spanish Fork and so ably coached us in scoutcraft. . May interest in this work increase, and much benefit be derived. |
