Show Z!ON PARK STAKE HOLDS M. I. A. DAY The first M. I. A. day for the newly created Zicn park stake was held at Hurricane Saturday, April 26, and vas attended by representatives represen-tatives of most of the wards of the , stake. I A pirade in which each depart- I merit of Mutual work was entered, and distinguished by caps and a miniature float, was the first event ev-ent of the day. The parade was led by the Beehive girls and Scouts, whose float represented a beehive on a bed of violets. Tnis was followed by the Juniors, whose float represented a rose, their class symbol. The Gleaner girls' float was a colonial scene, and the Senior class represented a beat. The stake of- ficers were last in the parade. The float prize was awarded the Eee Hive girls. A program was given at 13:39. with V. E. Woodbury presiding. Invocation was by FTank Reber. The Gleaner-Junior chorus was riven followed by the contest play, oul Mates, entered by the Hum-cane Hum-cane North ward, and the LaVer-kin LaVer-kin ward. , The closing prayer was by Wm-fred Wm-fred Gubler. The second session of the program pro-gram convened at 2 p. m. The opening prayer was by Frank Barber. The contests were as follows: Gleaner Girls' oration, entered by Eleanor Isom of the Hurricane South ward and Norma Bringhurst of Toquerville. Won by the former. M. Men's oration, entered by Ether Hastings. Junior re-told story, entered by Afton Leamaster of Toquerville and Genevieve Heaton of Hurricane South ward, won by Miss Heaton. Gleaner-Junior chorus, entered only by HurTicane north ward. Beehive re-told story, entered by Nellie Jolley of Springdale, and Ramona Anderson ef Toquerville. Won by the former. The closing prayer was by James Jepson. At 4 o'clock sports were enjoy- j ed by the different wards under the supervision of the Scouts and Mi men. In the evening contest numbers were given as follows: Douhle mixed quartet, entered by Hurricane South ward, Rockvffle, Springdale and La VeTkin wards. Won by Hurricane. j Beehive dance entered by To-! To-! querville and Hurricane wards and i won by the latter. Gold and Green caprice, enter-1 enter-1 ed by Toquerville and Hurricane j South wards. This was won by 1 Toquerville, but two of the dancers jj from Hurricane were chosen to 1 dance in the finals. After the dances, the LaVerkin ward, winner of the contest play, presented it .again, and this was followed by a dance for everyone. |
