Show County Agent News Notes WALTER V. SMJTH, County Afcnt. FALL PLOWING PAYS All farm lands should be properly pro-perly plowed in the fall of the year. This practice has several sev-eral advantages, it increases the soil, makes fertilizer out of decaying de-caying plants, kills insects and destroys weed seeds. "When plowing is left until spring the farmer finds himself crowded with extra spring work, the ground is sometimes too wet to work, his team is thin and weak and he just can't get around to do all the things when they need doing. As a result re-sult of this practice some of the crops get planted too late and result in partial failure. It has proven in all experiences experi-ences that the fall is the best time to plow. LKJNG STOCK FEED Eighteen trench silos have been built and filled already this fall. Cane yields from 15 to 20 tons on good farms and cane silage when fed as a supplement to alfalfa al-falfa hay is worth the same in feed value pound for pound. Cane that has been touched with frost cannot be used for sorghum, but it can be used as stock feed by puting in a trench silo and adding plenty -of water. There should be more feeding on Washington county farms and less pasturing.
