Show RIVER CLAIMS ANOTHER LIFE The banks of the Colorado river down below Peach Springs, was the scene of a tragedy that claimed the life of Bill Payne, formerly of Hollywood, but recently an employee at Boulder City, last week. . Payne, in company with R. L. Erwin of Texas, were en route to the dam, and decided to take a short cut by sailing in a boat from Peach Springs to their destination. des-tination. However, their plans were shattered when their craft upset in a series of bad rapids a few miles below the springs, and both men had to swim to shore. Payne was in such an exhausted ex-hausted condition from exposure and hunger that he was unable to accompany Erwin to Peach Springs. A posse was sent out from that place to search for the man. They had been hunting for hours when a hard rain set in and obliterated the tracks, I and further search was useless. |
