Show STRIP SEARGH UNSUCCESSFUL R. C. Hyde and Charles Walters Wal-ters Returned Tuesday Reporting Re-porting No Trace of Couple R. C. Hyde, father of Glen Hyde, who, with his wife disappeared in the Grand canyon over a month ago, and Charles Walters, returned Tuesday Tues-day after an unsuccessful attempt to find some trace of the couple. The other four members of the party, who are scouring the country up the river from Peach Springs canyon, can-yon, are not expected to return for several days. The searching party left St. George last Thursday morning, Hyde and Walters going to a point on the rim near Pierce's Ferry. From there the father and his companion worked slowly up river, taking a pack horse. A thorough search of the river's edge was made for tracks of the missing pair. After negotiating a short distance dis-tance along the river the men were forced to take to the rim because of the roughness, and finally found it was even necessary to leave the pack horse. After covering about 30 miles on this side of the river without with-out result it became impossible to proceed farther on account of the rough nature of the country, and they abandoned the search. At the time they were about ten miles below be-low the point where the boat was found. The other members of the party, Jim Hudson, Ross Miles, Jack Spencer Spen-cer and John Nelson, are going over the country in the vicinity of Diamond Dia-mond creek. Whether any new developments de-velopments have been uncovered by these men is not known, as there is no means of communicating with, them. Mr. Hyde is at a loss to account for the disappearance of his son and daughter-in-law. He says his son is an experienced man on the water, and had "shot" more dangerous rapids rap-ids in northern rivers than he had so far encountered on the Colorado. He sa that for several miles up the river from where the boat was found, the passage' iS not unduly difficult, dif-ficult, and the young man should not have had any trouble on account ac-count of his experience under the same conditions. |
