Show ST. GEORGE IS NOW FIRSTJN LEAGUE By winning over Minersville last Sunday by the score of 7 to S St. George went into first place in the league and if they can defeat Cedar City this coming com-ing Sunday they will have clinched clinch-ed the first half honors and will be entitled to play in the final playolf for the championship. Naturally Na-turally if they win the second half there will be no need of a playoff, but they will have to play better baseball than they did last Sunday or they will end up on the bottom instead of the top. However, there were some bright spots in the picture, Price seems to have snapped out of his slump by playing a fine game both in field and at bat. Empey is still playing his fine consistent consis-tent game. Ed Lund wobbled several times but managed to get through ok. R. Anderson made one beautiful stop but the rest of the time wasn't up to par. Harris likewise made a fine catch and was in there trying all the time even though he did drop down on his batting average. Bryan Lund played good ball considering the fact that he hasn't has-n't been able to get out to practice. prac-tice. The outfield didn't look so good on one or two of the balls that came their way, but it is questionable whether they could have caught them or not, at least they were trying, and several sev-eral of the balls that came ou. there were real bonified hits in any man's league. Any one of three men could have won the game for Minersville. Miners-ville. If their catcher hadn't made so many errors, if the pitcher pit-cher hadn't walked 4 men, and if the first baseman hadn't been asleep on the job it would have just been too bad for St. George. (Minersville would probably include in-clude the umpire's decision on home plate in the if's.) Most of those who saw this play maintain main-tain that the runner was safe because of the fact that he slid half way across the plate and the man who made the play on him touched him on the upper part of his body, if this is the case it would clearly indicate that he was on the base before he was touched. It seems to be . the consensus of the fans that Manager Thomas Thom-as did the right thing in putting Ad Anderson in as a pinch hitter hit-ter for Ed. Lund. This play (Continued on last page; BASEBALL GAME (Continued from first page) came up in the last of the ninth, ( with one down and Price on third. Anderson bunted the ball j on his third strike and was thrown out at first base but the j runner was almost to the plate j when the ball was bunted, and , although it stopped only a few j feet from the base, he was able j to make it safely home. It was in this inning that the , play at home occured that called call-ed for the unpire's decision, j Whitehead was up at the time . and it was his two base hit that i brought in the winning run and cinched the game. I May Odar Sunday This Sunday the team goes to Cedar to play. This will be the last game of the first half and if they can take Cedar they will at least be assured of being in the playoff. Cedar seems to be the hard luck team of the league, but those that are following follow-ing this team say that they are due to snap out of it any time now. Most of their games have been lost by one or two points and in the last innings of the game, so it will be up to St. George to play top notch ball or they may find themselves on the small end of the score. The baseball committee urges that supporters of the team gQ to (Viinr and help the boys with UiTir backir.ij. Anyone who U I suing and has room for one or ! more players should get in touch ; wi'h C.
