Show Farmer Stresses Dry Fork I Project Need By Lynn Mecham Several farmers have made the comment that this year was the first time they were able to receive water in the quantity they needed to ma ma- mature ture their crops through the growing season and especially during the late summer months The Thc beginning of 1963 look ed very unfavorable for a good many water users but due to the availability of irrigation gation water 1963 has been a good harvest year However all of the farmers and water users under the Ashley Valley Water Systems were not able to get the need need- needed ed water because of insufficient exchange amounts avail avail- available able in Ashley Creek THE DRY Fork Project would supply this needed wa- wa water wa ter systems now in use more effective than ever before This may be our last chance to have the full amount of wa water ter needed to properly gate our crops Last summer those users under the Service Canal were able to draw wa ter on 48 or hour 72 notice but users above the Service Canal could not obtain water until their turn came rame Due to an insufficient sup sup- supply ply of water in Ashley Creek as exchange water there were some crop failures If the Dry Fork Project waters were being emptied into the Ashley Creek during the summer months those above the Stein Stein- aker Service Canal could be assured of a sufficient supply of exchange water LAST YEAR the Reservoir supplied 72 of contract water This means that water users lacked 28 of having a full supply per acre The Dry Fork Project with its continuous flow ough the year would supply the needed water to help fill the reservoir to capacity in short years and thus make Reservoir work workmore workmore more effectively Farmers in inthe inthe the Dry Fork area would be supplied with water they need esp especially during the late summer mouths months Upon agreement t between the Ashley Valley Water Us Us- Us Users ers and the Mosby Irrigation Company the users under the Mosby Irrigation Company would have assurance of reo re water as stipulated in the terms of the agreement for irrigation This also would supply water for fishing Ap Ap- Ap Approximately proximately eight miles of new stream fishing could be created for those who are in in- in interested THERE ARE many favor favor- favorable able aspects to this Dry Fork Project which will either dir dir- directly or indirectly affect all allwater allwater water users in the area It needs the support of all the people to realize the benefits derived The Dry Fork Project is be be- be being ing sponsored through the Uintah Water Conservancy District which has made ex good progress in getting it started in the pre pre- preliminary preliminary stages |
