PLYMOUTH ANNOUNCES BIGGER, MORE POWERFUL 1955 MODEL CARS Plymouth's bigger and more-powerful more-powerful 1955 model cars will be displayed by Adderley & Nichols, H7 Main Street, Bingham Canyon, Utah, beginning Wednesday, Wed-nesday, November 17. The 1055 Ply mouths are entirely en-tirely new, both in styling and engineering detail. They are lower, longer and wider than pdevious Plymouth cars. They are the most powerful cars Plymouth ever built. The 1955 engines are a 117-horse-power PowerFlow six, a 157-uorsepower 157-uorsepower Hy-Fire V-8 and a 167-horsepower Hy-Fire V-8. The latter engine also id available with a four-barrel carburetor and special manifold which increases its horsepower to 177. Plymouth offers as optional equipment a full range of automatic auto-matic and power assist devices. They include Powei Flite fully automatic no clutch transmission, transmis-sion, a new design coaxial full-time full-time power steering, power brak-1 ies, power-operated front seat adjustments, power . operated window regulators, and adjust-j able speed electric windshield wipers. Air conditioning by Air-' temp also is available as special equipment. i The 1955 line is made up of 12 models, including for the first Ume four-door versions of the Plymouth Suburban, the all steel body "station wagon" type car, which Plymouth pioneeied in 19 ID. Styling by Exner Plymouth's 1955 styling is the creation of a design team headed by VirgiJ M. Exner, director of , styling. It is based on the prem-, Lie, Exner says, that styling must lirst be conceived as a unity. Ornamentation is then used to accentuate existing highlights lather than to create new ones. New Conveniences 1 One of the novel tcatures of the interior is the design of the instiument panel, which reflects sport car influence. Instruments are positioned to provide balance and eye-appeal. The "Flite-Con-trol" gear selector for Plymouth's Power-Flite transmission is positioned po-sitioned in the instrument panel instead of the conventional mounting on the steering column. The fuel filler pipe has been moved from the rear to the right .side of the car, with an attractive attrac-tive hinged door on the right rear panel. The filler pipe occupies occu-pies unused space behind the spare tire. The trunk compartment compart-ment has 33.8 cubic feet of useful use-ful spact and the trunk compartment compart-ment lid has an entirely new torsion bar hinge mechanism which provides more head clearance clear-ance and a more evenly balanced balanc-ed deck lid. Colors and Fabrics The color styling and fabiics of 1955 models are new. They also are trend-setting, in the confident con-fident belief of Plymouth designers design-ers who made use of new methods meth-ods of analyzing color preferences preferenc-es and cycles of color popularity. The 14 new exterior colors in the new models, for examples, were chosen in a series of eliminations which started with 90 different colors. All Plymouth cars, including the lowest priced, are color-styled throughout. The ;iinit employs a two-cylinder reciprocal re-ciprocal compressor.
