and the flower of the month Also great Americans with birthdays in January We enjoyed looking for ma- ma material material about January Our room had the show showcase showcase case to decorate this month Since we had been studying all about volcanoes we put our home made volcano out and a large picture and andi chart telling about volcanoes The other half of the show showcase showcase case was devoted to crafts We had looms puppets egg eggshell eggshell shell vases and many other decorative things that were made by hand In Social Science some of the boys made Relief Maps of the early colonies out of paper mache and nd sawdust then painted them with tem ter tempera pera colors showing the mountains piedmonts and coastal plains CENTRAL SCHOOL Sherry Williams Grade Our letter to Senator Moss Our teacher Mrs Morrill read us a letter she received from Senator Moss It told us how he wanted to raise the Lag flag over the Utah We all decided to write him and tell him in it was a good idea Some received a personal answer lIe thanked us is for writing him and that he will keep trying From this we have learned about the Utah and letter forms SNOWMEN By Joe Boren Miss Perrys Perry's second grade at Ashley Elementary made two dancing snowmen for their bulletin board We made them look like real snowmen by putting cotton on them Then we wrote stories about them THE SNAKE By Gail Heeney The snake is a greatly dis- dis disliked disliked liked animal except in our room We have a snake for a apet apet pet It is a great help though because it eats harmful rod rod- rodents rodents such as mice and rats which eat the formers grain When the snakes are young they eat insects Some snakes young are born alive while others are born in eggs When they are first hatched out their embryo stays with them until their first shedding Up until their first shedding they eat off their embryo Max We have been studying reptiles and now we have bave two reptiles a horney toad and a bull buH snake The homey horney toad Larry Stevenson brought and the bull snake Mrs Nielson's dad brought Mrs Nielson is trying to help us not to be afraid of snakes We haven't been able to find anything for forthe forthe the snake to eat but a snake can go for a couple of months without eating We have to keep the homey horney toad away from the snake or the snake will eat it SNAKES Larry
