| Show to Regulate Billboard Signs Along US 40 The Vernal District of the Bureau of Land Management is launching a program which will regulate and improve billboard and highway ad ad- located on pub pub- public public lic lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management along Highway 40 leading east and west from Vernal reported District Manager Odell A Frandsen Tuesday MR FRANDSEN stated that all persons and firms who have placed display signs on public lands in the past have done so without obtaining permission and are arc subject to trespass action It Itis Itis is necessary to obtain a per per- permit permit mit from the Bureau of Land Management before any ad ad- advertisement can be allowed The laws regulating this type of use on public lands stipulate that this permit must be obtained from the Bureau of Land Management wl which ch is the agency given the authority to enforce this land land- use program THIS IS NOT an attempt to forbid highway advertis- advertis advertising advertising ing on the public land stat stat- stated ed Mr Frandsen but an ef effort fort to keep advertisements within good taste and to as as- as assure sure the safety of motorists on the highway Accidents have been caus- caus caused ed by the unwise placement of signs along intersections and at other dangerous points which diverts the at- at attention of drivers from the job of drivIng safely he said The Bureau has recently published d a booklet which spells out the type of signs which may be placed on pub lie lands and the fee required required ed for a permit The fee which Is moderate has been set at the rate comparable to that received bY private land landowners landowners owners from persons and firms using their lands for tor advertising ALL THOSE who are pres- pres presently presently using public lands for advertisIng purposes are in in- in invited to visit the Vernal Dis- Dis District District Office at 89 West Main in Vernal to discuss their sign permits and to obtain in- in information Information formation about types of signs which are permissible Mr Frandsen said |
