Show 1 Reading month spurs activity at Ashley In conjunction with UIntah School District sponsored reading month for November the Ashley Elementary has participated in the district activities and held some extra activities Everyone agrees that the most en en- en enjoyable activity is the 20 minute silent reading period each day The school started the month with a jingle contest This was held Nov l 1 to Nov 5 The week of Nov 8 to 12 an art contest was held Nov 15 to 19 each family was requested to record the number of books ready by all members of the family and turn In the total Nov 24 children will dress up as book characters Each teacher will award a 5 gift certificate to the winners of the jingle contest art contest and costume contest The awards will be made at an assembly to be held on Nov 30 Also at atI that time each teacher will award a prize I to the winner of the drawing among those students who returned the form for the family book reading contest Two special activities at Ashley were the Ready Road Rally and the Book Fair The Ready Road Rally sponsored by the PT PTA A is competition between classrooms in each grade rather than between in- in individual individual students The winning classes will have a popcorn and punch party In Inthe inthe the near future The Book Fair was spon spon- spon sponsored by the school media center The children and their parents were given the opportunity to buy books and other items related to reading The proceeds from the sale will be used to buy more equip equip- equipment equipment ment for Cor the media center V N B r tI 1 y L sw M 1 na t tt Ik a s sIk t L 1 STUDENTS AT Ashley Elementary School browse through books available at the Book Fair This c event of Reading month was sponsored by the school media center |
