Show H 4 program for voter awareness A H 4 4 H Voter Awareness program was held at Union High School on Monday Sept 27 Four high schools from the area Uintah Manila Union and Alta Alta Alta- Altamont mont sent interested seniors to par in the program A group of seniors attended the program The purpose of the Voter Awareness program is to get potential voters in- in interested interested in the issues and political pro pro- process process cess Hopefully they will become in- in interested interested enough to register and vote Those old enough to register were en- en encouraged encouraged to fill out a registration form and send it to their county clerk After the opening program the students were divided into three groups Public officials would then be moved to each of the groups to present their part of the program Those participating in the program are areas as follows Opening address Steven Cox Extension Agent Dr Edwin L Peter Peter- Peterson Peterson son State Coordinator of H 4 4 H Voter Awareness Program State Federal Legislation State Federal Representatives RepresentativEs Alarik Myrin House of Dr Edwin 1 L Peterson Introduction Jim Stevens County and City Government Jim Duchesne County Commis- Commis Commissioner Commissioner Lawrence Yack Roosevelt City Mayor Leonard Heeney Vernal City Councilman Introductions Holly lien Hen Hendricksen Police Courts and Politics Sheriff Arden Stewart Uintah County Judge Brent Feltch Judge John Gale In- In Introductions In Vickie Arnett W Val Overson our State Auditor was the keynote Speaker The five critical elements mentioned by Mr are 1 1 developing a strong desire to be free and developing an appreciation of our form of govern govern- government government ment 2 becoming informed on issues at atall atall all levels of government 3 identifying issues with the candidates and then sup sup- supporting porting candidates based on issues they do or do not support 4 developing a strong desire to become independent from government becoming con con- contributors con instead of takers 5 preparing in a unique way for government service in non government sector either through regular employment or elected positions In behalf of the Extension Service we would like to thank the high schools in the area for their efforts in registering and getting their seniors to the program A special thanks to principal Ron Wolff at Union for his help in setting up the facilities For more information on 4 H programs call the Extension office at 1542 or stop by the courthouse |
