Show WI Woodey Searle Tells About Rodeo Funds Editor Vernal Express I Due to barriers whIch have I been placed in my way by I tam public officials and certain of the Vernal Rodeo i I I am compelled in order that the public may know 1 tn t bring to light certain things which have been done by the Vernal Rodeo Committee I As the public knows I con con- dueled ducted an amateur rodeo and andI turned the proceeds of I to Uintah County for the con con- construction I of the Uintah County I Hospital These ThE proceeds of 01 were the results of a atA t A day day amateur show ai i had difficulty In obtaining I the Uintah County Fair Grounds since many members of the Ver Ver- Ver Vernal I nal Rodeo and Race Meet Assoc Assoc- lation felt feIt that I was stealing I the shawn from their profit non corporation I Continued on page 8 WOODEY SEARLE TELLS ABOUT RODEO FUNDS Continued from page 1 I was required u to put up a guarantee er in order r that t af afe the e Uin- Uin Uintah i tah tab County Fair Grounds could oe ue u used by me Since conducting the amateur show in Vernal I have again made application for the Uintah County Fair Grounds to conduct an all amateur show monthly monthly 70 70 percent of the proceeds to go to Uintah County and 30 percent to togo togo go to myself to pay for my time and expenses I have agreed to give the 70 71 percent proceeds to to- to- to toward toward ward purchasing Uintah County a new fire Ire engine which is vitally needed in Uintah Coun Coun- County ty iy or to build an exhibit room at the Uintah County Fair FairGrounds FairGrounds Grounds which is also vitally needed to display agricultural products at the livestock show I have again met with criticism from certain local officials and certain members of the Vernal Rodeo and Race Meet Association tion I I After my contribution was made to the Uintah County Hos lice Hospital pital the Vernal Rodeo and Race Meet Association met in session session and decided that they should make a contribution to the Uin Uin- Uintah Uin- Uin Uintah tah County Hospital Before the time of my contri contri- contribution from my amateur show the Vernal Rodeo and Race Meet Committee had given nothing After the Vernal Rodeo andRace and andRace Race Meet Association had met and pooled the Vernal Rodeo and Race Meet funds and before my amateur show they present present- presented ed to the Uintah County Hospital Board a financial statement which showed that the Vernal Rodeo and and Race Meet has in In- In Incurred Incurred I a n net overall loss of After my contribution of 01 1103 00 to the Uintah County Hospital Hospital Board from my ama ama- amateur show the Rodeo Committee met in full dress review and de de- decided that they should make some contribution to the Uintah County Hospital Since the Rodeo Committee proceeds and receipts from the Vernal Rodeo and Race meet were in the red it was necessary necessary sary for them to sell Unit d States savings bonds which they had purchased during World War II and the Committee decided decided ed that it should sell enough to tomake tomake make a greater contribution than I had made from my amateur show It has been admitted to tome me mc by members of the Rodeo Committee that they 1 voted ls to cash a fourteen t e hundred dollars d in bonds to be donated to the hospital fund in order that the committee could give a greater amount than I did on my ama ama- amateur amateur show Thereafter the Rodeo Ro teo President President dent Mr Henry I with several others presented a check of but since the Rodeo Rod Committee had not received the money for the United States Savings Bonds which the Rodeo Committee contemplated cash casts cashIng ing in the check was returned to it for safe keeping until the funds were available in its bank account In other words the has not been paid by the Vernal Rodeo Contributors but the Vernal Rodeo Contributors have merely made a pledge in tha thu amount j of Mr Henry I president of the Vernal Rodeo and Race Meet Association stated We met all ail expenses and did not ask the I businesses or other persons for a single financial contribution I This statement of Mr Henry I does not bear out the tho facts which existed during the time the show was conducted by bv bythe the Vernal Rodeo and md Race Meet Me t Association since there were contribution boxes in the grand grandstand grandstand stand and announcements were made over the public address system that contributions be made by the public to the Uintah County Hospital in these boxes The Vernal Rodeo and Race Meet Association is supposed to tobe tobe be a profit non-profit corporation forthe for forthe the purpose of furnishing enter enter- entertainment and recreation to the people reo eople pie of Vernal I feel that since the Vernal Rodeo and Race Meet Association is a profit non-profit corporation forthe for forthe the benefit of the public that its reports and records should be made public The public has shown that an amateur show was enjoyed and patronized more than a profesSIOnal show The expenses are not so ao great and profits derived are greater The income derived for the benefit of the Uintah County Hospital has shown that the ex- ex ex expenses are less for an art amateur show than a professional show and that a greater benefit is de dc rived from an amateur snow show I do not feel Ceel that the sixteen members of the Vernal Rodeo and Race Meet should have power to prevent Individual sic al from putting on performances for the benefit of the City and County I feel that the pressure exerted by this group and which has won over certain public of officials is anything but fair I feel that the public is entitled to know that in your article pub pub- in the Vernal Express on the day of October 1947 that the facts therein alleged are misleading I feel that an dual should be given the same chance to tn assist the City and County as the Vernal Rodeo and Meet Association I do wish however to express my gratitude to certain members of the Vernal Rodeo and Race Meet Association and certain county officials who made 1 It 11 possible for lor me to successfully stage my rodeo
