E Casada of or Vernal who is also carrying out the watering and rolling rol on the project The East Park road construction contract contract con con- tract involves three f roads ads The first 33 miles after leaving the Vernal Manila Highway is a rerouted portion of or the Red Cloud Loop This section will be eventually surfaced oil to a 28 foot 28 foot two two- lane width and the replaced portion of the old Red Cloud Loop will be obliterated FOR ANOTHER 52 miles the route generally follows the old East Park road This portion of or the project will also be surfaced oil to a foot 28 two lane width North of Dyer Park the road will narrow to a foot 12 graveled roadway East of the reservoir a spur will run up to Northeast Park The contractor plans to get the project project pro pro- to a finished road grade this year Graveling and surfacing oil-surfacing the road will not take place until 1972 or 1973 ABOUT 70 per cent of the clearing and grubbing has been completed to date This includes the slash burning hurning which is a touchy operation in the sum sum- mer The slash is piled in long windrows in the center of the cleared roadway When wind and weather conditions are considered right for proper clearance of smoke and ash the piles are sprayed with diesel fuel and put to the torch usually in the late or early evening A water truck equipped with a pressure high hose rolls up and down the theburn theburn theburn burn area wetting down the adjacent tim timber ber and brush and looking for hotspots hotspots hot hotspots spots out along the right right of of way THE ROADWAY excavation is about 50 per cent complete There are two large fills at Kane Hollow approximately cubic yards and at a tributary of Dyer Creek approximately cubic yards The new route follows the present East Park road genera generally II but there are places where the design engineers seized Continued on page 6 J Al Ali iw i- i 4 w t i iii ii 1 F I w r T 1 4 f r 1 A.
