I Mans Manila a By Clara Robinson Historical Society Holds Field Outing The Daggett County Historical Society's first field outing was held last Saturday at Browns Brown's Park Forty local members and guests from as far away as New NewYork NewYork NewYork York and France came to hear and see see things of the past of the areas area's well known Western American history The group first met at Mr and Mrs Paul Williams William's home in Minnies Minnie's Gap a v. v 1 l I f rr Crouse who was among the entourage An outdoor picnic was enjoyed enjoyed en en- joyed before the caravan continued to Browns Brown's Park through Clay Basin and Jesse Ewing Canyon Destination at Browns Brown's Park was the home and ranch of Mr JIll and Mrs Duward Duward Du Du- ward Campbell on the Green River The site was the early pioneer residence of John Jarvie Sr who had a store lOst post postoffice office station and river crossing crossing cross cross- ing there The group toured the beautiful beautt ful gardens and original rock building now housing a private museum of the Campbells Many pioneer and Indian artifacts were viewed and discussed with the historians Highlight of the afternoon was hearing hearing hear hear- ing the recollections of 89 year old year old Minnie Crouse daughter of Charley Crouse an early settler of the Park She recounted some of her girlhood girlhood girl girl- hood days in the area and remembrances remembrances brances of the early Jarvie home and frontier business She was able to clarify many of the stories on their inaccuracies inaccuracies that have developed through the years Of particular interest were her experiences and friendships with the Indians and the circumstances surrounding surround surround- ing the murder of Mr Jarvie A most enjoyable day was experienced by all alland alland alland and another excursion of another section section section sec sec- tion of Browns Brown's Park is scheduled for the next year Some of those in the historical tour were Mary Tinker of Manila Mrs Heber Bennion also of Manila and some of her daughters including Mr and Mrs Douglas Buchanan and daughter of Paris France Bobbie Bennion Ben nion Cury and son Fester Menlo Park California Mr and Mrs Rex Mund and family Henry Williams Helga Larsen Larson Lar Lar- sen son Mr and Mrs John Elwell all of Manila Beatrice Beck Myrtle Myrtie Beck Milton Beck and Steve Beck all of McKinnon Wyoming Glenn and Sydell Miller Rock Springs Mike Steele Bill Williams Harry Rahm and Queen Steele Pinedale Wyoming Mr and Mrs Baker Post of Syracuse New York Mr and Mrs Paul Williams Jared Williams Pauline Williams and Mr and Mrs Phil Johnson and Ray Baker all of Dutch John FIFTY ML Homemaker Club members members mem memo bers bels and their families met at the Navajo Cliffs picnic grounds Thursday of last week for a very enjoyable picnic The ML Homemakers Homemaker's Club picnic is an annual event held every June Mr and Mrs Gene Briggs returned Thursday of last week from a trip to Detroit Michigan where they purchased a car and then drove through Indiana |
