Show Scouting Activities Set For February Scout Week Boy Scout week plans for February were announced May by bv Dallas Merrell dIstrict district district dist dIst- chairman Four important phases of the program during the month will consist of window window win win- dow displays scout rally Blue and Gold or Scouting Family Banquets ts and a special recognition re re- cognition program for boys and adults I ITHE I THE THE scouting activities will start with packs guide patrols scout troops and explorer posts I putting window displays in local I stores February 1 They will be removed February 8 The window display program will be under the direction of Claudius A. A Banks Unit leaders should contact Mr Banks for a window assignment All AU window displays will be judged during I the week by a committee under the direction of Mr Banks SCOUTS and explorers are also encouraged to put on a II demonstration of scouting and exploring in action on the two Saturdays They should contact Mr Merrell as to the location of their demonstrations Scout Sunday will be observed February 2 and February 9 Special programs are being prepared for Sunday evening in the Churches Other Churches will recognize Scout Sunday during one of their services CUB scout Blue and Gold and Scout Family Banquets will be beheld beheld beheld held by institutions sponsoring the scouting program Dates and information on the banquets will be announced by bythe bythe bythe the units units' and their sponsoring institutions The Scouting Rally will be beheld beheld beheld held February 15 at the Uintah Stake Center as an evening of fun and recognition to celebrate the birthday of scouting The program will start at p pm p.m. m and the public is invited to attend according to Mr Dan Dan- EVERY p pack ck troop and post may put in a display showing what the boys are doing in their programs Displays may cover any of the themes activities act or or skills The building will be open at 2 p pm p.m. m. m to install displays All displays displays' must be finished by pm p.m. Displays will be Judged and special recognition will be given given- the outstanding display in each group as follows cub pack guide patrol scout troop and explorer post THE second phase of the evening program will be bl the scouting skills contests covering covering cover cover- ing knot tying lashing signaling signaling signal signal- ing and fire building Participation Participation Participation in events will be by patrols All patrols must be registered by the leader by notifying Mr Merrell of the patrol name and the names of each member number of the patrol Patrols can not be combined to tomake tomake make larger groups The Guide Patrol will participate in the knot tying only Details of events follow Knot tying Knot tying will consist of five knots Lashing will be the building of a six foot signal tower Signaling will be by nags flags only and sending a ten word message will willbe willbe be by flint and steel using only native materials with a apiece apiece apiece piece of steel or a file CONTESTS will be scored with points for participation completion or partial comple comple- tion Special points will be added to contest scores for patrols that participate in their troop window display or scouting demonstration and for participating in hi the rally display The program will continue with special recognition to the outstanding cub scout boy boyscout boyscout boyscout scout and explorer of each scouting unit THE UTAH National Parks Parks I Council award Second Miler will be presented to who have given outstanding service service ser vice to scouting and have gone the Second Mile to provide a stronger and better program to the boys Scout leaders are to notify Mr Merrell of any they feel should be considered for this award Recommendations Recommendations Recommend Recommend- should include scouting history and details of the persons persons person's persons person's per per- sons son's achievements ALL leaders are asked to furnish the information requested request request- ed above as soon as possible and to include information of their scout week activities with dates and locations on window displays Scout Sunday program program pro pro- program gram scouts in action and the title of their scout rally demonstration de or display and Blue and Gold or Scouting banquet I |
