Cheney died in Salt Lake City December 14 1976 at atthe the age of 83 MR CHENEY was born in Manassa Colorado April 21 1893 to William Wells and Agnes Anderson Cheney They moved to Fairview Utah where J J. J JA A A. went to school He also attended Brigham Young University and th the Business College He enlisted in the World War I Army Quartermaster Corps and served in France After the war Mr Cheney returned to S Salt lt Lake City where he w was s an an officer in the Western Livestock Co until he was offered a position in 1922 in inVernal inVernal inVernal Vernal as cashier of the Uintah State Bank He became executive vice president in 1937 and served as president of the Utah State Bankers Bankers' Association in 1939 He be became ame president of of the bank a a few years later When the bank was was purchased in 1955 by First Security Corp He remained as manager for two years retiring in 1957 to Bountiful and Phoenix He was an active High Priest in the B Bountiful 2nd Ward in the r Church and a temple worker workers f s Mr Cheney help helped d promote p the growth of the Uin Uintah h hasin t and the surrounding area He fl building Flaming Gorge Dam and the Dinosaur Monument fl r A A CHARTER member member and president of the Vernal Lions Club he was past president of the Utah St State te Bankers Association chairman airman l of the Field House of Natural History vice chairman of the Vernal hospital committee chairman of the grazing board and commander of the American Legi Legion n P Post st st. He was also instrumental instrumental instrumental in in- in organizing the Chamber of Commerce and the Knife and Fork Club He engaged in farming and sheep ranching and was of service to tot t tah's Utah's agricultural and mining industry He was personally and finan financially helpful in organizing and supporting civic and church activities An avid golfer he helped establish Vernal's first golf course In 1922 Mr Cheney married Jeannie Lewis They had two children Jesse esse Lew Ch Cheney ney Salt Lake City and Agnes Jeanne Cheney Phoenix Mrs Cheney died October 17 1961 J J. J A married Lucille Hatch Garrett April 4 1964 She died October 22 1976 Other survivors are a sister Verda C C. C Ellertson Mona Utah and two grandchildren Diana Cheney Salt Lake City and Jesse Charles Cheney a missionary in Ecuador Funeral services were held Saturday at the Union Mortuary Mortuary Mor Mor- Bountiful Interment was wasat wasat wasat at the Bountiful Memorial Park J. A Price Ross J. J Salt Lake City Kent J J. J Honolulu Ha Hawaii wail five grandchildren six great great- grandchildren two sisters Mrs William Birdie Beveridge Price and Mrs Faye Scott Sacramento California Funeral services were held Friday at 11 am a.m. at the Walker Mortuary in Provo Interment was in the Provo City Cemetery |
