Show SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER PRECINCT PRECINCT No 5 John t John Henry a candidate for the Uintah School Board stated that he is a local individual with a deep Understanding understanding understanding un un- of our life style and the needs here in Uintah County County- John was was born in inVernal inVernal inVernal Vernal and graduated graduate t from Uintah High School in 1965 1065 He left Vernal for two years while he served a mission for forthe forthe forthe the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter Saints among the Indian people in Arizona and New Mexico He lIe graduated from Brigham Young University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and minors in statistics economics and accounting In 1971 John and his wife Deena decided to make Vernal their permanent home Since coming back home John has gone into business with his father Henry at Utah Motor Company In 1975 John and Henry received Chrysler Corporations Corporation's highest dealer award The Distinguished Dealer Award given to them for good management of ot their Vernal business JOHN JOliN LAS HAS had a lot of experience experience ex in in good business management coupled with an excellent education in business F John If elected to the School Board John stated that hat he will be able to use these skills he now has to bring proper accounting principles along with sound financial management to the Uintah School District With two children in school and his own schooling not so far behind him John has an acute awareness of the need for proper educational skills In our complex world He would like to see every child educated in our school district achieve the greatest amount of preparation possible More emphasis should be placed on the skills which will be used alter after schooling is over With math English reading languages language's and vocational skills placed high on our r priority list John feels that our children will be better prepared for the world that faces them Hugh II 11 K Knapp pp I am running for the School Board as a parent an educator and a citizen involved in our community I BELIEVE our schools should continue their present trend toward improving the basic skills so necessary for life reading math social studies and the arts This position does not come from any opposition to vocational education or physical education But Dut we do need a good balance Our children will succeed or or fail according to whether they discover the curiosity and skills for fora a complex future Our present School Board Doard has hasgood hasgood hasgood good representation from business ranching and legal areas My contribution would be in part discussing the ideas of basic education I 1 have earned a PhD Ph.D. degree in American History and have five years experience IP Ir college teaching That learl learning ng and experience will help me deal with issues in education Finally I have a wide Involvement Involvement involvement In In- with people in ourtown our ourtown ourtown town through work as an elementary school parent and andIn andin andin in other community activities and could therefore well T i 1 Hugh H H.
