P r i iF 1 r. r S'S f A SURPRISED expression was Dean Richs Rich's left reaction when presented with a plaque of excellence for service given by the Utah State University motor pool The presentation was made by members of the Uintah Basin Education Center staff Art Jones and Dr Paul Edmunds center and right Presents Plaque to Motor Pool When Dean Rich joined the Utah State University motor pool in 1948 he had only two cars to worry about Today motor pool owns 80 cars two airplanes and two busses which are rented out to university personnel and provides service for approximately cars owned by departments IN RECOGNITION of Rich and his staff the members of the Uintah Basin Basin Bas Bas- in Education Center recently presented a plaque of excellence to the motor pool department Richs Rich's comments We didn't do anything anything any any- thing special just provided the service we always do His cohorts agreed just the s same me service we give every body FOR UINTAH Basin staff however that service included renovating an old b bus s taking care of mechanical problems miles mUes away and flying in professors professors sors t to teach classes Rich has always gone that extra mile mUe for us whether it was a clean washed car car after a quick servicing or ora ora ora a replacement car while one one of our regular units was out of operation commented Dr Paul Paul Paul-Edmunds Edmunds director of the Uintah Basin Continuing Education Education Edu cation Center PERHAPS THE service they give everybody can best be summed up by their the motto-the difficult we can do immediately immediately im im- im mediately but the impossible will take a little time Rich who is manager of motor pool and campus services was was was' quick to credit his st staff ff for recognition pointing out that his four regular men had worked for motor pool from eight to 25 years ALTHOUGH WEVE WE'VE doubled our ser vices and cars in the past five years weve we've continued with the same number num ber of Rich reported He said that his was possible be bee r- r cause of updated equipment and newer cars We trade off our cars every two years or miles mUes Rich added IN ADDITION to the regular employees employees em em- Rich hires 12 students for part time work and two student wives to handle the office My office girls have to be extra special and able to handle the mad rush we get every morning he stated The part time students usually come from the automotive department at and the campus service work provides on the job training to supplement their classroom work he added AT TIMES Rich said he feels more like he is running a lost and found department department de de- de instead of a car rental Weve had items left in the car ranging from froman an expensive TV camera to pocket combs-and combs everything in between Rich related Other problems in running a smooth operation include getting cars back on time and stalled cars during the win ter Most people have a slack time during the winter but that's our bus bus- busiest busiest iest lest month Rich said HE REPORTED that during the recent recent re re- cent cold spell minus 30 degrees below below be be- low zero it took three days before all the stalled cars were rounded up and running again Also the work load in the shop is heavier during the winter months Campus Cam Came pus service does docs all the maintenance work on the university's snowplows and tractors We arent aren't specialized Our department works on anything from lawnmowers to huge diesel engines he commented |
