Show New Year Welcomed in By Midnight t P Programs gram Approximately members of Uintah and Ashley stakes gather gathered d on N New Years Year's s Eve at atthe atthe the two Stake Centers to wel come 1968 with a spiritual meet ing and dinner UNDER THE direction of the Mutual Improvement Association firesides at- at attended at tended mostly by the youth t of the area began at 10 pm jn n the chapels of the two Stake Centers which were both filled to capacity The meeting in Uintah Stake began with prayer by Phil Watkins and speakers were Carl Glade Watkins dent of the Stake Mission and William a Brigham Young University student MUSICAL numbers were pre by Louise McConkie who played a piano solo and Ellen Pope who sang a vocal solo accompanied by her mother Mrs Lloyd Pope Other speakers w were re Floyd Jay Jay Gross and Myron aU all Indian students at Brigham Young University who are also returned mission aries All six speakers related many unusual experiences working with people throughout the mission fields A MIDNIGHT prayer by Ross Merrill brought in the new year and at the conclusion of this meeting the group as in the amusement hall for a buffet dinner In Ashley Stake the meeting was opened by Allen White While Musical numbers included a quartet by Marline and Char lene Wardle Loretta Galloway and Deon Bastian acc fed by DeArmon Batty Bally and a piano solo by Geraldine Wash burn WM B of the Brig ham Young University was guest speaker ills His talk centered around the letters meaning Things That Persist divided in five categories 1 Effort is re- re rewarded re warded 2 Opportunity is per per- 3 Love makes the world go go round 4 Obedience brings peace and 5 The heavens are open Following an hour of monies Roger hacking gave the midnight prayer and the ev- ev evening ev evening ening was concluded with a dinner and dancing |
