Show Progressive Party Names Dames Vernal Council Candidates Harvey Madsen Sam Snyder and Jack Allred were chosen as Vernal City Council candidates by the progressive party con held at Tues Tuesday ay evening in Vernal The men are running for four four- year terms to filI fill seats scats which are presently held by Ralph Dr Dan Price and Tom Anderson MR MADSEN a pharmacist Mr l Snyder owner operator of ofa ofa a clothing store and Mr Allred barber shop owner operator were nominated by a body of 61 61 persons who attended the meet meet- meeting meeting ing In the county building court court- courtroom room The three were chosen by secret ballot from a field of four nominees including ding Cecil Wall oil company employee Attorney Whitney Hammond was elected convention chair chair- chairman man with Dorothy ONeal as secretary to serve at that and the next meeting in two years Mr Hammond explained to those present that a new newstate newstate state law prohibited taking part in choosing candidates for more than one party during a I single election A list was taken of those actively taking part in Tuesdays Tuesday's convention and will be on file in the county recorders office MAYOR ALVIN Kay and councilmen Glade and Gene Ray Hall are in mid mid- midterm term this election year Mayor Kay commented that Vernal City is presently in financial condition City records cords show a profit on its water system indicate the sewage system is within six years of being paid for and that a new Utah law requiring sanitary landfill garbage dis dis- dis disposal by all cities came one year behind Vernal's landfill operation northeast of the city Out Outgoing going councilman Ralph commented briefly say say- saying ing Vernal's fire insurance rates are the lowest possible for fora a volunteer fire fighting system due to a volunteer group which is the best in the state Following the various reo re- remarks marks the balloting results were announced and the meet meet- meeting ing adjourned at pm |
