Show i I Deer Season I f Opens Oct 22 I Seasons and regulations for forI I Utah's 1966 deer hunt were set bi L it rom a 01 u wg ig l ame Control during a recent all day session at Department of I Fish ish and Game offices In Salt Lake City The general season will be eleven days October 22 through November 1 for animals of either sex The Board set short er seasons on three units Octo Octo- ber ber 22 through October 26 for animals of either sex Only part of Herd lIerd Unit 41 Nebo will have an extended sea sea- season son of October 22 through November Nov ember 1 and November 5 6 7 12 13 and 14 The following units will have buck only seasons Terry Dixie Ox Valley Unit October 2226 Heaston Unit 11 October er 26 2226 Tintic Unit 14 Octo Octo- Octo October ber and the Vernal Unit 26 October 22 through Novem Jeer ber 1 Control permits will be issued for some units in an effort to further channel hunting pres pres- pres pressure sure into these areas where greater harvest is needed to balance the herds with the available forage Twenty four hundred of these will be for either sex control permits and an additional thousand will be for control permits A statewide archery season was set for August 27 through September 11 with a limit again this year on the number of per mits available on Units 20 and other actions saw the Board again legalize the use of arch arch- archery ery tackle for the taking of deer during any of the prescribed seasons Muzzle loading rifles are legal weapons for taking of deer along with any rifle firing a fire center cartridge with an expanding type type bullet Handguns shotguns cross bows and the use of rim fire cartridges in rifles remains ille ille- illegal gal Deer hunters may purchase only one control permit in add add- addition to their regular license Archery permits are consider consider- considered ed in the same category as control permits sO hunters may purchase either the control per per- permit mit or the archery permit but not both as in past years Other governing rules rilles and regulations will follow the same pattern as last year The pro pro- proclamation will be available to the public next week from De Department offices Board members are Chair man John E Phelps Welby Aagard Dan Freed Jay Ho Ho- Howell well and Mike Gaulin Gaufin |
