Show blighted c barley under new rules official grain standards revised by secretary of agriculture Pre prepared by the santes abe depart mu of 0 agriculture service she iho secretary of agriculture has revised the grain standards for harley as 03 to define and provide iro grades for I 1 P barley the definition for sound barley and the grade requirements for sample arndell are arc also amended the grain standards act requires in effect that not less than 10 d daya ays public notice must be before any new standards promulgated under the provisions of tho the act may become elective effective the amended standards will become effective on july 21 1033 tim the bruer of the secretary amending the standards provides in part as follows grades tor for blighted barley blighted borley barley shall bo be flu all barley which contains more 2 per cei t but not more than 5 jer w tent of barley damaged or materially discolored by blight or mold blighted barley shall be graded designated am according to the grade requirements of the standards applicable to such barley it if it iceie exe not blighted and there shall be added to and made a part of the grade designation tile the word blighted the grade requirements for sample sampie grade for all classes of barley are amended so BO as to include the specification or which contains more than 5 per cent of barley damaged or materially discolored by blight or mr neild ld the practical act of the revision Is that beginning aily 21 11 1 in the inspection and grading of barley kernels of barley that are damaged or materially discolored by blight or mold are not to be regard ed as sound kernels that the straight unqualified grades I 1 e no 1 bailey 1 special no 2 parley barley etc may contain as much as 2 per cent by weight of such blighted kernels that when the barley barlev contains from 2 1 per cent to I 1 per cent inclusive of such blighted glicr tr as ti ls the vord ord blighted mill be added to the grade designation 1 e no zo I 1 barley blighted ape b 11 0 caal iso 2 bailey blighted etc acte and that more than 5 6 per cent of such blighted barley hei nels aie present the grifo I 1 sample grade will be ea to the grain it Is believed by tin department that this amendment of the hurley barley grades will cause those these grades to conform nith users requirements and facilitate equi equitable tible grading of country run barley |
