Show 1955 wool marketing year prices P rices show 20 decline from 1954 sales A 20 percent decrease in the market price of shorn wool sold from april 1955 to march 1958 1956 was reported by the agricultural marketing service office af pf of ag ric statistics the average was 42 8 cents a pound 10 4 cents below the 1954 average utah wool ool growers were slightly better off than the nations average with 43 cents a pound the national average was 48 46 5 cents during the first month of the 1953 1955 year in april then it declined steadily through november increased slightly in december declined to the low point of 37 8 cents in Jant january iary and rose to in march in utah prices alces declined steadily from march through july rose one cent in august and dropped sharply to 40 cents in september in october the figure was 39 followed by the low of 38 36 which extended from november through january the figures do not take into consideration incentive payments which brought the seasons average return up to 62 cents estimated shorn wool prices relate to average price grease basis at the point of sale out of wool producers hands usually the local market or shipping point estimates exclude marketing charges such as grading handling scouring or carbonizing as well as commissions and transportation figures were derived from actual wool sales records filed by producers in county offices in connection with applications for shorn wool incentive payments |
