often Js as not jilt though i 1 sit down to write writt these thew ill nev slot completely cold ind ani without 0 and advance adV tince preparation be cause I 1 have found that what I 1 thought at the time was a 1 gem geni of wisdom is now only yester days news and completely devoid of any current interest we are living in an a age of 0 f super speed where th discerni dIss it erni 1 of news is a split second opera lion tion as someone has said noth ing is more dead or uninteresting than yesterdays newspaper therefore I 1 hope you will be indulgent if some of our report ing is old stuff and is a rehash of what you may have previously I 1 read or heard M president eisenhower A very avid listener last tuesday congressional dele delegation dign senators ar thur V watkins watkins wallace F bennett congressman william A dawson and myself seli edul ed an off the record visit to the tile white house to discuss top level policy licy 1 matters with president Us eisenhower it was mujally agreed in advance that none of us would release any statements to the press ess as to the purpose of ar our visit t because we did not want any misunderstanding of our purposes or aims however we calculated without giving any due regard to the shrewdness and efficiency of our newspaper men to spotting and smelling our story because representatives of the deseret news and salt lake telegram and the salt lake tr tribune were waiting with poised pad and pencil for us when we emerged from the tile presidents private office the only tiling thing eman tating from our lips however were broad smiles of satisfaction but conjecture le has it that our visit was highly success full a fact that we cant deny suffice it to say at this stage of development that our visit did concern one or more problems of dafin definite i te interest to all of the citizens of utah and that our requests fell upon very receptive ears cars our was scheduled to last only 15 minutes but the warmth and arid interest of the president extended our visit to a full 45 minutes the president has a remarkable memory and very readily recalled the first names of all of delegation his broad knowledge and understanding of both local and national problems however was what imire aed sed us most the people of utah can be assured that the president is conversant with and thoroughly sympathetic to our problems whether it bo in the tile field of reclamation mining agriculture ri or industrial expansion we were elated and very much encouraged by his cooperative and attitude in washington parlance the foregoing is a rather lengthy way to say no comment when asked by a reporter what whit was the pu purpose e of your visit to the white housea latest report on upper colorado river project pro j eel we previously reported that we would attempt to keep the people of utah informed as to any progress being made on the authorization of the upper colorado river project the struggle is still contin continuing U i in to win converts among etsfern eastern congressmen to our cause and I 1 am very much encouraged bromell by the reception and promise I 1 have received from my many friends here in the house the subcommittee on irrigation and reclamation have not as ma yet voted on the project because they are awaiting clarification fi on nn some minor points by the bureau of reclamation and the bureau of the budget however these points should not be he any serious stumbling blocks and it is anticipated that the bill will be approved and sent to the parent committee house interior and insular affairs committee sometime in march hearings on this legislation have been temporarily delayed on the senate side because of the sudden illness of sen millikan R colo i who is chairman of ahe the com committee cittee we want to reaffirm once more to the people of utah that we vm are wholeheartedly behind this project and will continue to work night and day to obtain apt approval during this past week I 1 have naw distributed te reprints prints of 0 editorials from the deseret news and salt lake tribune to over newspaper ir editors throughout the country and have ano also seat sent these none
