barracks building received from the united states dept of interior in 1945 had been turned over to the cub scout pack and scout troop the building located on the fair ground property has not bee been a used by the rodeo association since its receipt and they have been try ing since last december to locate some worthwhile orgin who could use it to an advantage when the committee learned that the scouts were trying to arrange a summer camp they immediately offered its use the scouts plan to move the building soon to a spot in the nearby foothills where a c campsite nip can be completed so the boys may enjoy the experiences of a summer camp games and the out of doors the camp while belonging to the cubs and troop 37 will be avail available aWe to the other scout troops in the area so all scouts can participate I 1 ilithe ina the fun mr searle remarked in handing ov erthe deed to the building that he be felt it wai was if a big step i forward in meeting the child problems problem in scouts plan to eventually have two dor dormitory dorro atory matory buildings a community building for kitchen and meeting rooms the cub scouts under the leadership of 1 dr H W marrs are now taking boys eight nine and ten years of age A few eleven year olds will stay with the pack until fall when all troops then will take the age group into the boy scouts each group of six or eight lulies boys has his a den mother who guides their weekly activity in a prescribed course of work each month a pack meeting composed of all dens and their parents attend and go over the months work woric with skits and demonstrations the mothers at present doing this work are mrs iva cutshaw mrs blanche cluff mrs maxine hatch mrs billie roberts and mra mrs vivian voorhies hies the pack committee in charge of drawing up programs and activities are dr J L hanson dale naylor jack C turner tom hatch A P voorhies and bob olson the scout troop has ted mohr as scoutmaster and is sponsored by the local kiwanis club the i troop now had boo between 23 25 and 30 active scouts in uniform and i are growing each week the troop committee is composed of rex Str legel nick meagher Meag ber J j D jones kr dr H W marrs marra and i tom hawa 1 l deb casada is assistant scoutmaster of the troop the two units are in the midst of a fund rat raising drive the proceeds are to send two boy scouts to the national jamboree in valley forge this summer and two cub scouts to camp chief ouray in granby colo the scouts a are r e collecting scrap metals paper etc also they are sponsoring a dance on the night of may fth in the hall the cubs plan a benefit show in the vernal theatre early in may any profits over the cost of sending the boys to camp will be used in advancing the local ocal camp |
