who he has been in office tor for approximately twelve years yem announces that ho he will not ask for or a re appoint reappoint ment and that tho the poet office de part ment Is announcing an examination in the near future to fill all the position at tho the expiration of hie his term mr youngs young a first tint experience in tho the postal service woe was during the year 1904 when he lie was employed aa as a clerk in the vernal ros tollice tice by R 8 collett the postmaster the tile postoffice post office was located in the bulldog buld rg now occupied by the roguery mail mall waa was then coming from price utah by stage taking three days for the trip from price to vernal and vice versa the first arst daya drive waa from price to the brooks ranch at the head of nine mile canyon the second day to the bridge now myton and the third day to verral the return trip being made in the same N way ay A dally daily service was then being performed requiring 32 horses tor for a round trip or eight changes during the tile spring thaws or muddy veather eat lier the stages were invariably late arriving many times in the tile early morr at that time it was necessary tor for the postmaster or a clerk to be at the office to receive the malls after hours of waiting and the empty sacks were often us edat ed abed a bed As the town grew larger quarters aare A ere required and when the addition to the main coop co op building bi tiding was uns completed the office aas as troed irked into the building now occupied by the utah power light company postmaster young aas as appointed acting postmaster 17 1805 1905 succeeding rt R 8 culott ind served as acting postmaster until march lath 1005 when 8 P dillman vias n as appointed postmaster he ile served as assistant postmaster to mr dillman until february 1 1908 1906 when E if belcher aas appointed aster to succeed mr dillman who resigned it was during this period 1905 vohen ft hen the former aln tab tali indian reservation was aas opened and the postoffice post ottice office waa was taxed to its capacity in serving the crowds of people that were then in vernal and in the handling hand JIng of the malls mails sufficient served two terms in this office ending december 31 1910 and was appointed postmaster stet december 13 1910 the increase in m business anat population of the city had grown until it was necessary to procure new rew quarters and with the completion of the uintah state bank building the po was aas moved into the building now occupied by the farmers market the no post postoffice office department having established the parcel post system the amount of parcel post handled grew at a very cry rapid pace later when the weight limit was increased in the 1 2 3rd bones to 70 pounds and 50 pounds in all other zones and wid the tile size increased to 84 inches the anoint of parcel post handled gre grew with the increased effic efficiency loncy of hauling the malls mails by auto and truck from appointed postmaster april Q 1620 having haing had the distinction of receiving the endorsement of the local democratic county commatee Comm ltee and the de democratic socratic senator from this state
