Show POSITION SCHOOL OF BOARD IF CUTTING OF SCHOOL TERM I 1 there seems to be some mishu der standing la in some parts 0 at the county with regard to the recent action of the board of education la in cloning closing the schools earlier then thou us ual we U have received com munica tlona protesting against this action and in order to get the facts before the people a conference was held with willian 11 II dent of the board A 0 secretary ecret ary and it S olsen county superintendent As a resul reaul ot at this conference it was decided to issue an official statement to the pi public a to be prepared by superintendent 1 olsen winic is in the statement I 1 at a recent meeting held by the board of at education it was practically decided to continue the junior high schools chool throughout the district tor for a period of eight aad and one halt months while no formal action was taken on thie this question an un derst andlar at least was reached I 1 to run the seventh eighth and ninth grades at vernal lapoint and rand lett jett for the same period of time as the high school this action of the board has caused used considerable comment both favorable and unfavorable it appears from some ot of the statements made that the public is not informed en on the question and taw much of the criticism is due to lack of at understanding bhea the juni junt or and senior high schools were organized at vernal last tall teachers vere placed in departments where they were best fled to teach the C ri teacher la in mathematics taught bis I 1 subject throughout the entire school the subject of malory was bandied handled by the same teacher in both junior and senior high this policy prevailed throughout all the school in biond bundling ling department work when the question of closing school first came before the board it was dis cohered that thap the teachers in the junior and senior high held te same kind of contracts which of course Is dee due to the fact tha that t they are all doing the same kind of work these teachers were employed for the school term and the board does not feel justified in asking part of them to resign with the present force of teacher 3 it will not cost the district any more to continue the seventh and eighth graces in the junior high schools than it would to discontinue them because the teachers are al at ready employed and could demand their salaries if the board arbitrarily decided to drop part of the teachers and discontinue the seven seventh and eighth grades it would upset the entire high bool program b baure caure each teacher as hij his department and it if we should withdraw say div teachers it would mean that we would have to change teachers and place other fea teachers chers in their departments this would seriously handicap the school and weaken our of meeting the state requirements I 1 the state department is making certain requirements of the senior hagh and the ninth grade of the junior high and in order to parti spate in the state fund these grades must run the full torm credits from our schools would not be accepted in other schools it we fail to maintain a standard high school with the junio junior high operating at the three places mentioned it Is possible for students in the north part of the district to attend at lapoint in the south part at randlett Hand lett and the east at vernal it will be observed from the geography of the county that the distribution Is fairly equal from jenen to vernal to I 1 possibly the greatest distance these schools will be open to students from any part of at the district and if more help Is needed to meet the demand the necessary number of at teachers will be employed the a object of 0 this letter Is imply simply to state the facts as thoy exist and for the people to draw their own conclusions clu give light and the people will farid a arr questions will be gladly answered by the board of education if addressed to them |
