Show JAMES ONEIL SR PASSES QUIETLY AWAY SUNDAY EVO SEPT 19 AT the citizens of vernal were shock ed sunday evening to learn of the sudden death of james onell oneil sr one of its old respected acted citizens on saturday mr oneil was up shaking handa hands with friends and stopped with jamea james oneil jr tor for supper and at the time was lively and in tho the best of spirits and health at about 3 sunday morning ho be was taken ill and a physician was summoned and be he became much improved in the afternoon bis his children that wore were present had gone to their homes their father telling them they need not come back AS he would be up and about his work in ill the morning they scarcely bad got homo home when they were again summoned to hie his bed side and shortly shortly after arriving be he passed away at 7 being conscious until the very last not realizing be he was at deaths door until just the last minute the cause of his death was hardening of the arteries only three children were present at the time of their fathers boath his wife being on a visit to one of her sons in hiawatha james oleu sr was born in scotland november 6 5 1847 of or parents who had previously joined the church of jesus christ of latter day saints when 16 years old his parents emigrated to this country coming directly to utah and locating at calville ko alville summit county and for a time he worked in the coal mines there later the family moved to midway in wasatch county where he met and married mary E alexander in july 1875 to this union 11 children wore were born james jr now county clerk of 0 uintah county john of fort duchesne Duch eano mary james who died in 1905 alvan of hiawatha agnos agues jacobson of vernal elizabeth winn of fort ducheane duchesne gertrude johnson of hiawatha Hla uatha percy L of vernal george who died in 1918 duchesse af city ethel of port fort duchesne and deside 1 allred of salt lake city there are three brothers and two sisters living william of boosi roosevelt v elt samuel of midway george of park city helen whistler oldest living sister and agnes ritchie R of park city james onell oneil sr was as always an ana active church worker but confirm ing his work principally in his own ward of glines u hera he has always lived since coming to ashley hauey in 1885 1886 for a great number of oara he was superintendent of olt tho the glines ward sunday school and of later years confirming his work to tho the helping of those around him all were his friends in 1909 ho was made justice of the peace of south ashley precinct being the only public position he ever held beld he took up a homestead in glines ward where he raised his largo large family of children bhora have remained near ail home during the black hawk war lie fought indians in wasatch county and belonged to ira im jacobs company of indian fighters only last year he received a pension for bis his faithful services a mention of which was wait made in the express at the time funeral services will be held thursday in the glines ward meeting house and interment will be in tho the maeser cemetery his life wife and all of his children and a part of his brothers and sisters will be present his was a life of service to his fellow men and his kindly face will be missed by bis his many relatives and associates left to mourn his leaving caving this life |
