Show portable motor con control t rol sou sought V in US parks A proposed regulation to control the use of portable motors in the back country or wilderness areas of the national parks paries and monuments was announced last week by secretary of the interior ste wart L udall lift ile said it would not apply to outboard motors for boats in park areas where motor boating to is permitted it would apply however to such portable motors as chain saws generators and water pumps in the wild sections of the park system secretary udall said the proposed regulation would not apply in campsites accessible by vehicles ile he explained that it Is intended to preserve the quietude and wilderness atmosphere of the back coun try and to halt serious destruction st of woodland the secretary said the proposed regulation would authorize a park or monument superintendent to issue a permit for the use of portable motor equipment if he determines its use is justified an applicant for a chain saw permit would have to state clearly where he plans to cut what when and how and explain I 1 plans for disposal of the slash the proposed regulation was published in the federal register on may 23 interested persons may submit written comments suggestions or objection to the director na dional park service washing ton 25 1 C within 30 days after its publication |
